Fuel Prices!

"MRC President and Newsbusters publisher Brent Bozell predicted on Feb. 23 that gas prices will keep climbing and the media will keep downplaying that fact to help President Barack Obama.

“The prices are going to continue to escalate and the media are gonna continue to downplay it. This is the kind of story they don't want to cover. It goes against the narrative of the 2012 election and they're gonna do everything they can to get this guy elected. Period,” Bozell said..."

"Bozell explained, “Think about this: when the prices in 2008, when the price of gas hit $3.56-a-gallon, which was you know sky-high for George Bush, in the preceding month there were 97 network news stories. When the gas prices hit $3.56 under Barack Obama, which was Feb. 20, you look at the preceding month there were 21 stories."

And I remember under GWB when fuel hit 4.00 a gallon, and that was 3+ yrs ago. Drill Baby Drill won't fix this problem, we are already shipping a ton of fuel out of this country as it is.......

Ditto on that commute! I'm at 135 a day... It is killer... I like MM's post. Very interesting how this is being portrayed in the media. $3.56 a gallon in 2008 is the same as 2012... Oh but wait there is so much prosperity that it's OK now.... with unemployment down to a record low of 8.3%. LOL another interesting thing I noticed last night that the reporter reading the number rounded it down to 8%... I am sure under another president it would have been rounded up or even better reported as hovering below 9%....

And even if we were 100% only oil found in the US was supplying the US people, Corporations would be selling it to the highest bidder, speculators will be turning their contracts over and over to make profit every time they trade. This is nothing more than greed unchecked, loss of morals, and loss of ethics. IT is all about the money, nothing else.

So if a private business sells their product to the "highest payer" they are "greed unchecked"?

I listened to Obama-tard and his talk today. I'm still trying to figure out how taxing the oil companies more reduces fuel prices... but I obviously have less of an education and job experience than he does.

Who do they think will pay the taxes if the oil companies are taxed more. You and Me! Everytime Obama oens his mouth I want to throw up

That is good.

I liked this part:

"What do I pay for in a gallon of regular gasoline?

The national average retail price of a gallon of regular gasoline in January 2012 was $3.38. The four main components of the retail price of a gallon of gasoline, and their approximate share of the total price in January are:
  1. Crude Oil: 76%. The cost of crude oil as a share of the retail price varies over time and among regions of the country. Refiners paid an average of about $108.00 per barrel of crude oil, or about $2.57 per gallon, in January 2012.
  2. Refining Costs and Profits: 6%
  3. Distribution, Marketing, and Retail Costs and Profits: 6%
  4. Taxes: 12%. Federal excise taxes were 18.4 cents per gallon and State excise taxes averaged 22.68 cents per gallon."

Number 3 is why the retailer makes their money selling Coke and lottery tickets. :smt043

Well if we are going to pay more, I am for taking away their tax breaks. If they want to keep their tax breaks, then the cost of gasoline should be reduced to US by 25% of the current market value.

Maybe we should spank them too... that'll get them to lower prices...

Can you explain why/how that could be possible. If they loose money on every gallon how long do you think it'll be before you don't get any gas at alll.

Cost to operate a Chevy Volt

Eric Bolling (Fox Business Channel's Follow the Money) test drove the Chevy Volt at the invitation of General Motors.
For four days in a row, the fully charged battery lasted only 25 miles before the Volt switched to the reserve gasoline engine. Eric calculated the car got 30 mpg including the 25 miles it ran on the battery. So, the range including the 9 gallon gas tank and the 16 kwh battery is approximately 270 miles. It will take you 4 1/2 hours to drive 270 miles at 60 mph. Then add 10 hours to charge the battery and you have a total trip time of 14.5 hours. In a typical road trip your average speed (including charging time) would be 20 mph.
According to General Motors, the Volt battery hold 16 kwh of electricity. It takes a full 10 hours to charge a drained battery.
The cost for the electricity to charge the Volt is never mentioned so I looked up what I pay for electricity.
I pay approximately (it varies with amount used and the seasons) $1.16 per kwh.
16 kwh x $1.16 per kwh = $18.56 to charge the battery.
$18.56 per charge divided by 25 miles = $0.74 per mile to operate the Volt using the battery.
Compare this to a similar size car with a gasoline engine only that gets 32 mpg.
$3.19 per gallon divided by 32 mpg = $0.10 per mile.
The gasoline powered car cost about $15,000 while the Volt costs $46,000.

I predict that the Republicans will stop demanding the government do something about gas prices this the moment Obama is out of office.

I love the internet. You get to see this stuff:

<<snip lots of other fun math>>

I wonder where this guy is?

My last NJ power bill shows. $0.16 /kwh
My last PA power bill shows $0.12 / kwh

Neither area is know for its "cheap" power . . . .

not bothering to look at any more of these "facts".

I think you are off on the charge cost by a factor of 10. Eric Bolling in the on air conversation said "about a $1.75 per night to recharge". We are closer to $0.035 in my region so GM probably uses that for their marketing.

Regardless of all the details, I don't think all of this happened by accident.....Most of us probably live in the burbs, for various reasons, another topic, and really, what the hell are we going to do about it, but knuckle under, and, buy the g*d d**m gas, almost, whatever the g*d d**m price is???? They will not, entirely, take us down but they are definitely going to make most of us bleed.......we have to purchase autos, insurance, and fuel....this is working great for someone....
