460 DA Owners Thread

I completely understand the want to take the bimini down however on the 460 at least the way they came from the factory its not that easy. Almost everybody I know doesn't go through the trouble to take it off since you are mostly in the sun anyway. It looks as though you have some aftermarket canvas Russ so it may be easier. The 2 460's I run are a pain in the arse to take down and there is no real way to roll it up on the bars like the smaller boats.

I had mine made with the notion I was taking it down all the time and this winter we are re-working the canvas on my friends boat to make it easier.

I assumed it was like my 370. I would unzip the forward Bimini fold in the arch so just the frame was arched forward, wrap the Bimini around it and zip on the canvas cover. Then I would pull the pins and move the whole frame back to rear bottom pins and zip the cover into the arch for upper support. May be difficult to understand without seeing it but SR definitely made it that way. If the 460 is not like that its really easy to make it that way- I think.

Maybe I won't end up doing on this boat if it does not work that way. I just love driving "outside" and I thought that's why they made it canvas in the first place. I always say it's a boat, your supposed to be outside!

Russ,
As you know, I had the same 370 and I thought the way Searay designed the bimini was really nice with the cover getting zippered to the arch. I have to believe the 460 is the same design as it worked well and really didn't take long to do. I can't think of a different way of doing it, so I'm curious to see what you discover............

Yeah, I'm curious now too. I will let you know.

Does anyone know who the manufacturer was of the stools provided in the salon and at the vanity of the '03+ 460DA's?

I'm not sure but if you look up Rusty Higgins here on CSR, he may be able to help. He has been an invaluable resource and very helpful, if he does not know he will find you someone that does. How is your search going?

On it.... It's 3am right now but as soon as I get to work I will find out all the particulars. Certainly remember the stools, just have to see if our supplier back then is 1- still in biz and 2- still makes the things. If not, we will create some alternatives.

Will report back asap.

That would be awesome Rusty, appreciate the help

Alrighty...I found the part and the supplier but it does not look like they produce the thing anymore. We bought the base legs from Southcoast Marine and we did the cushion and vinyl tops Soooo, I would certainly suggest calling Southcoast Marine at 727-573-4821 and ask if they can still produce this part...and yes, you can say that I sent you. But the real deal is that if they agree to just two stools and that be it, they very well may have to charge more than we want to spend. My next suggestion (ready for this one) is to check stores like Rooms-To-Go and I say this because they carry apartment and trailer sixe furniture which is much more acclimated to a boat as versus a house. I know it sounds a little hooky but give it a shot if Southcoast can not produce for us. If you get just the base, any upholstery shop can add foam setting and a nice vinyl cover.

Sorry we do not carry those anymore but I will still keep looking with my scrape and recycled guys in the marine world.

Stay in touch!

Well, found out earlier than I thought, we have a signed agreement,
Now off to find Catawaba, OH suveyors.
I talked with a guy that has surveyed the boat before and he sounds very knowlegable of Sea Rays and this boat in particular.

Is the boat at the Catawba Island Club or one of the other marinas? Enjoy the process and good luck with it.

James, I believe that it is at the Catawba Isalnd Club, it's in heated storage right now.

Very nice facility. We were at the C.I.C. for a visit with our 460 in June. It's all freshwater boating of course and the vessels there are generally well cared for. I believe there is no heated storage on site but there are plenty of full service marinas nearby.

I looked at what I'm guessing is the boat and she is a beauty, good luck!! Let us know what happens.

Yea Russ, I was pretty surprised as the listing photos are nothing like the actual boat. The new canvas and updated Garmin are nice and I'll be interested to see how effective the stern thruster is, although I won't need it on the lake. Just need to get the surveys lined up and get the boat out of the barn for it's cross country truck ride.

BIG problem with having a stern thruster.......

Sold our 400DA last year with no thrusters at all, but loved the boat.

Bought a 460 with Bow and Stern Thrusters, now I'm not sure I would ever like to be without both.

Picture this ........ you make a mental plan as you reverse into a Berth, I'll do it without thrusters, just like we always did on the 400...... problem is, having them there just makes it so much more precise, you can not help yourself, a little blip here or there and you dock perfectly, the lines can just be dropped over the cleats on the pontoon, it is just all so easy, even in a cross wind or current, total pleasure and never a worry, even coming into a visitors berth you don't know.

Be warned, once you have had them both, you won't want to be without!
