What would you do to revive the US economy?

To answer the OP'S original question. I would start by not borrowing money from china and then giving it back to them as financial aid while they collect interest on the loan.

Good point. I would further stop borrowing it from SS as well. Many people think SS is in Al Gore's "lockbox", IT IS NOT. MM

How Germany Builds Twice as Many Cars as the U.S. While Paying Its Workers Twice as Much

"against all mainstream wisdom of the neo-liberals. We have strong unions, we have strong social security systems, we have high wages. So, if I believed what the neo-liberals are arguing, we would have to be bankrupt, but apparently this is not the case. Despite high wages . . . despite our possibility to influence companies, the economy is working well in Germany."

That was a lot of reading to learn NOTHING. As a country Germany has firmly established their reputation as the world leaders in quality, and they probably deserve it. I'll ask again; how do the unions, you so much love, benefit the country as a whole? MM

Here is my position on it. When the government stops wasting the billions of dollars we are already paying to them, if they still need more, I would have no problem paying more tax. Something tells me though, if all the wasteful spending is cut, I would actually get a decrease. I mean, what the higher tax guys are asking for here is like an individual running up all their credit cards and loans on junk, vacations, bars, or whatever and then keeps going back to the bank "needing" more and more money for the same things, all the while saying "I will try to see what I can do to cut spending at some point".

I love you.

It has been proven time and time again that tax rates have little to do with revenue.

The Bush years saw greater receipts, as did the Reagan years, than higher rate periods. Most of us for lower tax rates know it brings a better economy and more money into the Federal coffers. MM

So. . .which is it?

Lower rates increase revenue, or make no difference?

As for the increase in Revenue during the Bush years: was that the result of reduced taxes, or a heated economy driven by the Keynesian deficit spending that was the hallmark of the Republican Legislature or that era?

Good catch Com, Higher rates do not increase revenue, lower rates do. Poor articulation on my part. We have to stop the bi-partisan spending. Free spending is the ONLY bi-partisan issue in Washington. MM

Don't worry - if the Republicans do well next November, the fuss about the deficit will stop the second Wednesday of November 2012.

I don't think so!! I'm sure Chris Matthews and the rest of Obummer "lap dog media" will continue the "good fight" lol

No, the left wing whinnying about the deficit would start January 21, 2013if the Republicans win.

But frankly - the Republican party *really* needs to get its act together if they want to even maintain, let alone improve, their hold on power.

this is great... And I agree with the protestors... I'd like to see how by increasing taxes and blaming Scrooge that would have fixed the problems in turn the century England. It was strong family values, capitalism, education, and opportunity that made the USA great, not taxes... Look a China today, there are a lot of Scrooges there and they're economy and middle class is growing... Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night... See you next year...

I don't think it will happen ;( I think the dems will take control and BHO will get another term. During the next 5 years, there will either be a revolution or, if we make it through, the American people will see the light and Dems won't get in for the next 16 years! I believe (hope and pray) people will wake up and see how corrupt this admin. is. I can't believe how many people I talk to that think "Fast and Furious" gun running is the latest movie! I can't believe how many people don't keep up with current news. If it aint on MSNBC most libs haven't heard it ;(

BTW...I'm not happy with Repubs. I think todays repubs are yesterdays dems!! I'm ready for a change that represents working class people...maybe even some (that evil word) "isolationism" for a short time after we put the brakes on the EPA, start drilling and get our MFG back up and running...imho!!

I gotta agree with you, except for the revolution bits.

The current administration cannot seem to follow anything traditionally done: "So to sum up, for the 10 rules that weren't required to go on the books, eight snuck into the Federal Register anyway with little if any quantitative analysis. The GAO goes on to describe the "informal and ad hoc" system for coordinating new rules among the financial regulatory agencies, which may be contributing to "market participants' uncertainty about the future functioning of financial markets." This judgment largely tracks that of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission's inspector general, who released his own regulatory audit in April."

I,m not the one thats upset, I think this is funny. Some of the people on this forum would make a better candidate for the republican run at the white house then the one's that are running!!!!

Very, VERY poorly written article.

Regarding the current field of Republican candidates: That is a VERY low bar you are setting.

Did I read correctly that only Paul and Romney managed to meet the requirements for getting on the Virginia primary ballot? Is Virginia particularly hard (what. . 10,000 signatures?)? Or are people simply not working on a "50 state" campaign?

Like I said, might as well get ready to "bow before the Messiah" The only hope we have is to get rid of scary Reid and fancy Nancy and get the dems out of the Senate. I think its a stretch for the house and senate, but it's the only hope we have:huh: I can't imagine what it will be like if BHO gets to appoint more judges...GOD HELP US:smt089
