Got back today to NJ from Sag Harbor with Alex... Followed Alex for a 5 hour long Ocean ride, and got pounded and sprayed in the face with sea water... No shower needed... Filled up in Brielle and got home just ahead of a storm... Thanks to everyone... Now I have a new favorite destination, Block Island... LI was not bad, but the laid back feeling and beautiful water of Block reminds me of Bermuda... Special thanks to Alex for leading the way... Its nice not having to plot my own course, and just follow... I did learn that a 340 water tank only last one day with two girls... Also, I learned that I have smallest dingy that anyone has ever seen... I know that's what she said....

Rod, I tought you had more comments about the trip back home...

I just added some notes and pics from Three Mile Harbor in my post #467. I'll post more on the Sag Harbor and trip back home later.

Nice Picture Alex... What a beautiful trip... I also enjoyed sleeping in my own bed last night after 10 days away... Hope to pick your brain this week end for ideas on were best store my new dinghy... BTW my daughter Kelly found my car keys in Nancy pocketbook... I am glad there weren't thrown overboard...

I've added more notes and photos from 3 Mile Harbor and Sag Harbor, and of course commented on our washine machine trip back.

Hey Alex...
What? No pictures passing through the lock with a foot on either side? Sounds worse than the Pt. Pleasant Canal, which always gives me the willies. And no pictures of the "Gilligan's Island" run back? Just kidding! Those are certainly times when the last thing you are looking to do is stop and smell the roses.

Great write-up and photo-doc. The boating industry at the east end of LI should publish your work as a vacation advertisement!

Its my fault there are not pics of Alex going through the lock... We weren't prepared with the camera... All I know is I was praying that I would not hit the slides of the lock, I can't imagine the angst that Alex was feeling... I went through kattywampass and just missed hitting the sides... I wanted to use my bow and stern thrusters, but my wife told the kids to keep there hands in the boat...

The trip back was like a 5+ hour trip in a washing maching. It would not have been too bad if it were a shorter duration. I also had the benefit of following in Alex's wake. Now showers needed for my crew as we all got soaked...

I didn't realize what a significant difference it makes exiting via Shinnecock Canal (as opposed to going "back around.")

I think I'd need more than a shower after that ride - probably some new underware!
