Hello all,
Been absent a little lately, mostly work, some boating. At any rate when I have the time and money my favorite ICW tiki therapy place is Jimbo's Sandbar, just South of the Dania drawbridge. Un fortunatel y I go more by car than boat. Our saying for this place is "You can sit here all day and not run out of stupid."

Speeding boats, docking, undocking and the drawbridge are ofeten the subjects....
Here's an example, shot by my friend on her Android..

I'm speechless :wow::wow::wow:

Certainly amusing to watch. Anyone that intoxicated and out of control, operating a large vehicle, should be arrested and jailed.

Been at Jimbo's many times and have seen plenty of idiocy. There is a ripping current you can see going under the bridge. This is so bad I'm wondering if he was on one engine and then it got away from him? Not pretty.

That's why when on a Boat you have to think 3 Steps ahead of your current action!!! What a MoMo! :wow:

I thought it was great. Nice to see a drunk F*** Up his own boat rather than hit someone else on their boat.

I haven't quite figured out what he was trying to do. Could he just not keep the boat going straight or was he trying to turn around to go the other way? Classic "Give me the keys I'll drive"!!!!

How was it determined that the operator of this boat was intoxicated. It seems evident that everyone at the bar was, but has anyone given this guy the benefit of the doubt that he might be experiencing mechanical problems of some sort that is not allowing him to control his boat in this current? It doesn't look good for him because the experts on drunkenness have decided that he was indeed intoxicated. Perhaps they are right. Perhaps he was drinking along with them just before this incident occurred?

i was not there, but my friend said he was there for quite some time... Perhaps he forgot he had two engines when he left..

Are you sure he is on one engine ? At 21 secs on the video you can see water coming out from port and starboard sides.

Electricaldoctor,
The inference of this thread is that the operator of the vessel was intoxicated, hence my response. I don't know the operator or care to. I have seen and dealt with many people that cannot handle their liquor and have a low tolerance when their behavior seriously endangers others.

If it turns out he was just having mechanical issues then obviously I would feel differently.

Listening to the person who is taping the video it’s stated they were together on shore talking just before this happened and the person uploaded the video with a title that implies the operator is drunk.

The current under Dania Bridge can run 2.0 - 2.5 knots. That's swift, but for a twin screw nothing challenging. The boat appeared to be functioning from exhaust & prop wash and at one point the skipper had serious weigh astern, just before he lost it and spun to slam in to the fenders in reverse. The outbound current swept him clear of the bridge where the current quickly subsides (the venturi effect abates), and he still was wallowing about.

I vote for serious impairment.

Well, I really missed out on all of the clues about this guys sobriety. Sorry Dude, but it seems that you were hammered!! Too bad that the last people that were aware of your condition didn't make a better effort to keep you from driving your boat. Your keys should be withheld whether you were driving a boat or a car. We should be grateful though that nobody was hurt. People like this individual really should be banned from driving any motorized vehicle for life. I know that this is not giving him "the benefit of the doubt", but given the evidence by the locals at the bar about his sobriety, my sense is now that this is probably not the first time that this individual has driven while intoxicated. In my original post about this, I was really hoping that it was more a case of mechanical failure rather than drunkenness. Hopefully, all ended well and that somebody reported this guy to the proper authorities. The taped evidence would not go well in his favour.

I have no idea or comment about his sobriety but I thought he lost the port engine not long after hitting the upsteam fender (it looks like its not running at 1:25). To me it appears he got it off the fender and then the port engine quit, at which time he gave up trying to control it and let it go under the bridge. Which may not be a bad option - being downstream that is. He certainly made a mess of the stern platform.

In thinking about it further, losing the port donk is perhaps why he hit it the first time. I doubt the stbd and rudder alone would get the bow around in that current with the limited room in which to do it. If he just left the restaurant/club/bar then perhaps its a expensive lesson about letting the engines warm up before casting off.

Was at Credit Village Marina last summer, guy like this trys to enter harbour, hits 4 boats and cops let him go. Not impaired and stupid is not a crime.....
What a shame.....
