Florida

I agree with Don. I got tired of the Chicago cold and moved my family down to Lighthouse Point when my kids were in junior high. It would have been easier on them if we did it when they were younger, but after the adjustment, we're all down here and they settled in. One kid is in college in Florida and the other wants to stay in Florida when he goes. Had we waited until they went to college in Illinois, it would have been too tough for us to leave. If you're thinking about getting out of the cold and into Florida, there's no better time than now... since you can't go back in time.

The schools in Sarasota florida are really good. Particularly Hign School if the kids go to the right one.

It is possible to buy a house in Osprey or Nakomis that are in the Ssrasota school district for about 500k with dockage.

Thanks Steve,

I am looking 500k or less.
Just cant get a feel of a place over the net.

Maybe, I should rent first.

Thanks again.
Mark.

The idea of moving to Florida was great until I realized it's just a huge retirement village for the NY/NJ area. Why would anyone want to live full time down there? (OK, just joking...sort of) but there's no denying the huge amount of "Yankees" that are there now. Sadly, when we retire, it will be far away from the jerks up here. Brian

True, some areas of the east coast of FL are considered the 6th Borough of New York City, which is why I chose the West coast. Much more "laid back" feel and slower pace, in my opinion.

I went to University of Tampa, and after graduating in 1994, I briefly went back to New York/ Long Island only to say "what the hell am in doing in New York"? I promptly moved back to Tampa Bay area and I can say it was the best decision of my life.

You just feel better with all this sun! Plus, boating year round and access to some of the best cruising grounds anywhere, including the Bahamas.

Mystic Dreamer hit it on the head. The east coast of Florida is where the HY'ers retire. Mainly WPB or Jupiter area. West coast is made up of mid-westerners. Definately much friendlier and laid back. Cost of living is no where near the east coast with good boating and great weather. I moved from Chicago to Clearwater when I was 16 (20+ years ago) and I'll never go back.

The boating in the ICW is for sure better on the west coast! I call the west coast of Fl the "party coast" and the East coast is the "fishing coast"!

the west coast seems to be the shallow coast!!! great anchorages

A cruiser's paradise...However unless you are out on your boat your missing the best part...Doing all those morning beach walks isn't quite the same thing ya know.

Your right Chuck...I am waiting for you to buy a yacht down here so I can come and visit you and go cruising

Thanks 'Paint, just admiring from afar.......we need to hook up this summer and tip a few on the Vineyard if this is your crew!
