240 "HYBRID" DIESEL Sundancer

That's cool .....I like the newer 240s...I think it is my top contender for an upgrade....but that seating....it just looks so uncomfortable....like you have to sit up "nice and straight" all day....someone who has one, tell me I'm wrong.....don't mean to hijack anything here.....just seriously curious about that seating....

I like the idea but the lime green is not something I could live with.

I like it - the color is a bit much. I like the seating arrangement around the helm. The additional hybrid mechanicals would scare me a bit - just the diesel would be enough for me.

I guess the biggest problem is with the price difference between regular 240DA. Using this difference you can get years and years worth of fuel. This reminds me the initial hipe with hybrid cars where you pay around $6K-$7K more for the compact size hybrid vs. regual gas model and need about 7 years to cut it even. With this 240DA it looks like the scenario regarding cutting even is even worst.

Well, looks like SR is done with their hybrid experiment as it is not practical. I am surprised that they are wiling to allow a boat with such a unique propulsion system to be sold to the public.

Enought with the green stuff already. So you build a h ybrid and have to put those ugly colors on it cause its "green". But the way I look at it any first run, not proven technology should be avoided. Good luck getting parts for that!

There comes a time when power, weight, load, and maintenance restriction impact how you drive a machine. In boats from 16 to 50 feet hybrids are not practical. You will do better to match the drive to your boat specifications using efficient diesel/gear technology.
No one has overcome the cost of ownership in a boat hybrid in this size range.

Volvo has been using diesel over electric for year in large marine application. They have been at the fore front of green technology. Mack, a Volvo group company, has been using green technology for 10 years, Volvo bus for even longer than that. Volvo Construction Equipment is tier 4 compliant and certified. Yet small equipment and marine application still sees this as a challenge.

You just can't put 10 pounds of stuff in a 5 pound bag, hang a solar panel on top and call it green. They'll be lucky to unload this albatross . And oh yes the color sucks.

People are buying $80,000 Porsche Cayenne hybrids. I don't doubt that there's a market for this type of silliness because it goes with their religion.

The green is disgusting.... I have the same seating layout on the 07. It actually works out well, that little table swings out which is neat. The helm can hold two and the back seat can hold 2-3. Would I prefer a bench or lay down seat on the port side....probably. That might be why they brought it back on the 10-11 models.

That "green" is definitely a "chin scratch-er"...:smt043:smt043.....it wouldn't be my first choice, for sure, but honestly, for the right price, I could easily deal with that color and the seating...

I would really like to know how fast it is.... I am thinking it's not :wow:....that would be the deal killer for me...

I like the idea of a d-sill engine, I don't know why they don't offer a more "off the shelf" variety of diesel....that would push that thing between 45 and 50....:smt038 now we're talking "a cool boat" combined with that bathroom for the ladies and a closed bow for those bigger waves....that 240 size is awesome...particularly with the present economic uncertainty...com on Sea Ray you're very close....:smt043:smt043

BTW...Thanks for your response about the seating...I am thinking it isn't your first choice but certainly manageable..

It was a simple science fair project for Sea Ray since Steyr did all the hybrid engineering. Probably not much more than a drop and and adapt to the bravo drive. That said, if they dumped the hybrid junk, which is not good for much more than idling in and out of the slip, fairway and no-wake zone, then they might have something if the additional cost was low enough that the payback was reasonable.

You don't need a 2 to 3 year ROI on the diesel upgrade as long as the potential market sees a value in the upgrade as well. With the coming increase in oil prices, moving diesel power down into small boat territory might start to make sense. Especially in the case of lightweight diesels such as the Steyrs.

But I still don't see a payback for the hybrid system. Hybrids sort of, kind of make sense for city drivers and others doing a lot of stop and go since regenerative braking allows for the reuse of energy that's normally lost to heat. But I don't know many people who do stop and go boating or a lot of braking for that matter.

Best regards,
Frank

:wow: :wow: :wow:....open the draw bridge....

Steyr makes a decent high speed diesel, they have been around for quite some time. I wouldn't mind dropping a couple of those in the BBY without all the hybrid crap attached!
