We have members that post more threads just to create tension and strife than they do boating issues. One member is a one person post machine that has posted more new junk than boating related threads. This member has personally taken over the holding tank to stir the pot.

I realize that we are mainly shore bound this time of year, but I think this is too much. What do you think? Should we stop engaging and maybe it will stop? Do you like the edge it puts on the site? I am growing weary of this crap. It is often not a reasoned debate but a regurgitation of talking points by closed minded people with little life experience.

I think if this continues at the current pace many others will be turned off and leave us without their valuable insights.

OK, Mike. I'll man-up. No more political posts, or replies from me. If I do it, you guys call me out.

Don

Awww guys, I thought you would find a different point of view refreshing. :smt021

I get the message. If its that upsetting to hear the other side I'll just stick to boating topics.

Maybe what Pack66Dad has proved is that it is time to ban discussions of politics and religion from CSR in line with what a number of other boating sites have done.

It is less a question of "upsetting" people with a "different point of view" than it is the intentional disruption of a valued resource for no purpose other than to create conflict. Publishing political manifesto after political manifesto serves no useful purpose.

I've never used the ignore feature. Until now that is. I'm through being dragged down into the levels of stupidity and then beaten by experience.

I too have taken this path for the first and I hope only time. If most of us take this path then that person will have no one reading his garbage.

I'm sorry, but that is just a load of malarkey.

BTW, you may want to look at this thread: http://clubsearay.com/forum/showthread.php?t=37180&page=6
I did have the courtesy to ask if it was an "open forum".

It's a winter thing. Everybody has shrunkwrapped themselves up so tight there is no oxygen going to the brain, IMO. This happens every year. We can't think of decent boating topics so we spew out the crap that's in the headlines and political vommit that is at the forefront of our minds. The issue I think that goes over like a chili fueled fart in church is that some take joy in strirring the stain in the shorts and in a forum setting, points of view can't be summed up in a decent post. Instead they retort with extremes and "look at me" attention getting replies. The Repo dude from FL is a good example. That dude commited forum suicide in almost a 'killed by cop' style. "Let me lash out at everyone that replies to me" and now I have no way to return to a normal post because everyone on a normal boating thread thinks that they're rafting next to Charles Manson. It seems to me like PackDad's only agenda in his brief time here has been political and agitating to the forum. I haven't hit the 'ignore' button yet, but I don't play too much with the political threads. It's futile. Anyway, Happy New year....

Just checking..... I'm about 180 degrees off the course of most of these posts.

I don't want to make enemy's, I really love this site so let me know if my liberal viewpoint is unwelcome in the holding tank.

A liberal view is welcome to the forum in my opinion and when asked if political discussion should be banned I chose NO. This forum has need to discuss boat regulation, oil, water access, and fishing regulation. All of these topics contain political elements that are sensible for us to discuss. What is tiring is, as previously noted, is "cut and paste" of purely political topics.

Thanks for this response I like it. I will respect your posts more if they are your own thoughts expressed in your own way and related to boating issues rather than “you are going to hate this/gotcha type posts.” As the author of the original question in the thread it was my intention to get us back to boating related topics, not ban all political conversation.

All of these threads were in the “holding tank” which everyone that sees them has made the choice to jump in to. I must admit I do hate to see the treads, but I just make the choice not to participate in them, it is that easy.

I think this post here sums it up real well!

Damn, Todd. You be smart!

This is all I am going to say. Pack, you did throw those subjects up simply to bait people. Otherwise you would have continued the debate when other's asked you questions about the crap you copied and pasted. But rather than defend your spew, you simply pasted more crap, if you responded at all. You were baiting people and you know it.
I think you give me too much credit, I'm not smart enough to be that devious.

I tried giving "my opinion" a few times and it was summarily dismissed by the conservative horde. I was then accused of never backing my opinion with fact so I did some research and tried to provide backing for my points, this also was ridiculed. In fact I have tried everything I know to engage in civil debate and try to give you conservatives a counterpoint. I can only surmise from the vitriol this has caused that you and many other on this forum want the holding tank as your private "good old boys" forum. Where anything can be talked about..... as long as you agree with it.

I have said this many times sferg, I like you and I think you are a decent guy. I didn't come here to make enemies and I'm truly sorry your so upset.

I really don't understand why a couple posts with some non-FOX viewpoints have caused such a problem. Look at it from my point of view. Almost everything posted in the holding tank by anyone (except me) could be considered "baiting" the liberal, couldn't it?

My experience here has given me some insight into conservative thinking. One thought that comes to the forefront of my mind tonight, after reading all the "ban the liberal" threads. I find it very troubling that those who want the freedom to do as they will in their own life are so very quick to try and deny the same freedoms to those they do not agree with.

Freedom to do what I AGREE WITH is what America is all about.

The threads over the last week have been fascinating. The double standards and hypocrisy are awe inspiring.

A couple of posts? Try one every 3-4 days. To much of this stuff is going to hurt the site, which is why I asked the original question. I don't want to ban you. I want you to censor yourself and others to do the same and keep this a boating forum where our common interests are met. So go over to the gas thread and tell them its Bush's fault and ponder next time you see a moveon article that will "get um" is this good for our club.

It's nice to know where people stand on topics some don't want to discuss these days. I find it refreshing to be honest. Call a Spade a Spade and a Duck a Duck. No hiding in the "Holding Tank"....BTW....it's smaller if you have twin V6's vs. the mighty 454! Just had to add a boating topic for controversy, Mike.

I had this same complaint a year or so ago when the forum almost ceased being a Sea Ray forum and turned into political soapbox.

I was told that I was single minded and dull by those folks who figured the form meant open season for any topic. Oh silly me; what was I thinking?.........a Sea Ray forum and I was critized because I expected the topics to be about boating.....

In counting to 10 before unloading, I discovered that the arrow or cursor on my computer screen goes where I point it, not where the pot-stirrers directed it to go. I now have a list of forum members whose posted content is useless, alongside the ones who have risen to my self determined level of jackassedry. I just don't care what they post and if they get their question answered or problem fixed or not......my cursor can't seem to find the threads they participate in.

Works for me..........try it..maybe it'll work for y'all too.

Leave me use that in a paragraph.

Organized religion is an oxymoron as hypocrites implant politicians into church offices with the intent of tearing down any form of religious structure. They are elected by way of vote buying as they are lying about free housing projects being given to the poor. Illegal aliens, I mean undocumented immigrants have relied on these bogus projects and have come here with tunnel vision looking for what most of today’s media has mindlessly promoted. They say that the same group of people are dying in Africa today and have been for at least 50 years. It seems that most of today’s Liberal philosophies have entered the church as Lemmings and Sheople sit back and do nothing. We are on the verge of taxes being extracted from the church as these leaders make our churches an online social club all the while toting an “aint technology grand” philosophy. Drunk on the tree hugging ethanol charged agenda of the day traditional religious views are relegated to censorship ad nauseum.
Oh well Queue Sara Sara etc.etc.etc...:smt043:smt043:smt043
