Hi tom ,ive never had automatic tabs ,do they tend to over adjust at slow speeds or in a chop?
 
Thanks, I'm sure I'll have questions soon as I've never had tabs and recently got a boat with them. I recall you had a great post back awhile that you may want to post here on tab operation.

Our boat is a 1997 Sedan Bridge w/ 350 Cats. I hang a Noverania dink on Nick Jackson davit on the stern - weght about 500 lbs + davit - ( additional 100#?).
With the Gen. set and my potable water in the stern I am obviously stern heavy .
Do you have a solution using tabs to raise the stern at lower rpms and planing at a more comfotable, lower speed. Now I am over 2000 rpm to get on the step - I would like to be able to be on the step at a lower rpm for a more comfortable, slower cruise. (I understand that the Cats. run best at 80% WOT- but I would at times like to cruise at 50% or so.)
I've had different opinions given that : I should install fixed tabs over the prop pockets - I should increase the width of the (2) existing Bennett Tabs (looks like I could add 4-5" width on each tab - add to existing tab width by welding a 2-3" piece onto the traling (aft)edge of each tab.
What in your professional opinion will help me the most (without eliminating the dink)

Good question!

The Auto Tab Control (ATC) constantly adjusts how much and how often it adjusts the Trim Tabs. The system "looks" at how much the boat reacts when it moves Trim Tab to adjust the boat's attitude, then it either moves it more or less depending what is needed. This way the system compensates for both boat speed and sea conditions.

In order for me to give you advice on the best solution would it be possible to tell me the size of the Trim Tabs (Sea Ray does not tell us which ones we make for them are used on a particular model)? Also a photo of your transom would be really helpful.

The best option may be a combination of the things you mentioned, and we may want to see if there is room between the propeller pockets to add a second set of Trim Tabs.

Adding a second set of Trim Tabs is quite straight forward and if there is room can give the best results. The additional Trim Tab actuators (rams) are teed into the existing hydraulic lines and operate in tandem with the original ones .

Here is a photo of a boat in Australia that I recently helped the owner fit a second set of Trim Tabs. While this one is an outdrive powered boat, the principle is the same. He is delighted with the results
