Has anyone swapped the o.e.m. microwave that came with your boat with a convection/microwave unit?? The kids like to make fresh cookies on our boating adventures and I would hate to disappoint them... of course this has nothing to do with my love of fresh cookies!

I have a 1999 Sea Ray 400DB. We took out the microwave and installed a Contoure Microwave/Convection Oven. Best thing we ever did. It microwaves, grills, bakes, warms and I think even washes the dishes for you... We had chocolate chip cookies from scratch last night. Baked a 10 lb ham yesterday as well. It gets used a lot and I would not be without one. Only down side is that I have more dishes to wash (the admiral does the cooking, I eat and wash dishes). Installation was easy (about an hour total), cost was about $250 (I think) and we got it through a distributor in Sarasota, Florida who I recommend (no fuss, no muss and we got a front cover but decided we did not need it after all and had no trouble returning it for full refund). You will not regret it. The instruction manual is a little sparse but it is easy enough to figure out. you can see it at http://www.contoure.com/products/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=27&idproduct=71

If you remember the distributor you purchased from, please post. Thank you

The would be great to replace the Sylvania Microwave in my boat. I fear it will not fit though. I will have to measure.

mmmmmmmmmmmm, coookiiieeeeessss!!!

I never use the POS coffee maker that is incorporated into my microwave, plus the carafee's like to implode.....I'll be watching this thread with intrest. If anyone can post the measurements as well as a link to a good place to get a convection oven, it would be most appreciated.

I will have to measure mine tonight. Looks like the Contour is not as deep. But from what I remember, I don't think the space I have is that big

I have had the microwave out before. We don't have alot of extra room to work with, unfortunately the one place we could probably add some is in the depth. Oh well, we'll see.

We got ours at a distributor but I see that Sailor Sam's in Sarasota is selling them and at a very good price too... http://www.sailorsams.com/mall/cm7060s_microwave_oven.asp

Remember that you have to vent a convection oven and that is important. We simply put a grill in the top of the enclosure where we put the microwave and it works well.
The one in the link doesn't appear to be "convection"

This Sanyo model: http://www.amazon.com/Sanyo-EM-C678...tion/dp/B000YVPWNA/ref=tag_dpp_lp_edpp_img_in available on Amazon has what look like good specs and mostly OK reviews and seems to be about $100 cheaper than the Sharp or Contoure. The listed dimensions are 19-7/8" D x 13-1/4" H x 20-1/2" W. It looks like it may have greater interior volume based on the controls being inside the door but it's hard to say that for sure based on pictures. Some reviews rave about the controls.

I have a 1997 400 Sedan Bridge.

I installed a Sharp Convection Microwave in place of the original eguipment.

Sharp was the only unit I found that was small enough - width wise- to fit over the refer.

The installation came out perfect. There is plenty of air space to accomodate the hotter Convection feature.
The additional trim kit offered gave even more air circulation and a more finished look.

Hoping this thread isn’t so old everyone’s forgotten how to do this!... we have a 2003 SB 400 and need to replace the microwave... I have a more fundamental question: how do I get the old one out? Do I have to move the refrigerator and access screws underneath?... the way the old microwave is held in place seems to be a (well-kept) secret :-(

Thanksin advance

Simon

I think you have to remove the fridge first to get to the secret that secure it on the bottom.

Thanks for the reply... I’m on the boat right now... removed the fridge flange screws, started to slide it out, but the flange gets stuck on the molding/trim below the microwave housing... before I start dismantling the fridge, what am I missing here?... see pic

Thanks in advance,
Simon
