340 SUNDANCER THREAD

Thanks Bon Dia!

I will take the list and check everthing out or better yet learn. :smt038

As for the geckos, well, they wouldn't survive up here in Wisconsin unless in a tank so I may have to resort to my sons frogs. :smt017

what typ of paint do you recommend for the chain to identify when you are close to bringing the anchor up the chute?

I painted mine white & red 2 yrs ago...red's gone, white still's visable but needs another coat.

Forgot to mention fix for AC drip pan drain stain & AC fresh water cooling drain mineral deposit.

If you have brown stain on the hull below the larger of the two drains midship port side it is probably rust from the mild steel AC pan (under master berth). Replace that with stainless steel pan & polished the stain off your hull. It will continue but become less over time. There's a post about this, you might get lucky & get a free one from AC manufacture.

The smaller drain is the AC cooling water & left unchecked it will build a ugly mineral deposit on the hull at the drain. Fix is to glue a 1" piece of clear plastic tubing into the drain to extend the discharge water away from the hull. Again, there's a post showing this mod.

You don't have to glue the clear plastic tubing in the discharge thru the hull. The plastic tubing is so tight a fit (if you get the proper size) that you don't have to glue it. You can put the tubing in both of the AC outlets (different sizes). Sorry I don't remember the 2 different sizes.

Due to the ridge on the inside of at least one of these outlets, I wrapped the tube in duct tape and jammed it up in there. Works great.

Hi guys,
I'm moving over from the Official 280da thread to this one as I just signed a contract on a 2004 340da.....so I'll have a whole bunch of questions like I did for my 280...get ready!
Biggest question I have is I'm going from sterndrives to vee drives, which most people seem to prefer. What should I expect in handling once I get to actually drive this baby in four to five l-o-n-g months from now?

KG,
I just bought a very nice fresh water 2006 340DA that was loaded in October for $139,000. It is a buyers market. Some were asking over $180,000 for like boat; they are not in the real world.

Thanks for that,
I've looked into shipping costs and after a long search found a company that ships to NZ 3-4 times a year, cost is about #34k US depending what coast it will come from. Am now checking what is required for importing at this end.

Its looking like it would be cheaper all in, to import one but the hoops that will need jumping through and the red tape is quite of putting.

A very clean 06 over here is $340,000 NZ!

Hello, fellow 340'ers! I recently purchased a 2002 340 Sundancer, with no engines or generator. I am posting the restoration of the boat at:

http://searay340restoration.blogspot.com

I am looking forward to getting to know the boaters here. I am sure I will have questions as the project proceeds, and this site appears to be a great resource! I would appreciate any feedback or suggestions any of you may have.

Hi all...just spent the last 30 mins reading this thread, very helpful info. I just bought a 2002 340 in SC. Planning on bringing it up the ICW to the Upper Cheseapeake. I understand the boat tend to "sit". I read somewhere changing the props (3-4) may help the boat plane out. Any thoughts/advice?

Run with the tabs down no problem. Keep the bottom clean. At 1/2 fuel tanks she will get a little better milage. More weight more fuel burn. However, we enjoy cruising at "cocktail speed", about 1200 rpm. You should love the 340 it is a great boat.

I'm not sure about the sit or what they mean by it. Ours is a 2004 340 DA with V-Drives and 8.1's. Our sweet spot is 32-3300 RPM at about 23-24 MPH. Thats on the Chesapeake in most conditions. Don't be afraid to use the trim tabs as the boat has the stability to use them in a moderate sea. Enjoy your boat.

Hi, looking for some help here or pointing in the right direction.

I'm looking for line drawings or measurements that would help a trailer maker construct a launching trailer for a 2006 340/375 Sundancer with twin 306 Yanmahs and V drives.

I have searched various threads attempting to find this info and even looked on the Sea Ray web site but have drawn a blank.

Thanks in advance

Graham

We purchased a 340 Sundancer (2005) late last fall. The boat is loaded c/w twin 496 mags - 98 hours on the engines.

We are on a fresh water lake so what speed and rpm would you recommend? And, what is the average gas consumption.

Any information you have would be appreciated.

Brian

Brian, I have to agree with George (couple of posts before you on same page) that the real sweet spot is right at 3200-3300 rpm. For some reason on my boat, the rpm's and the mileage are usually in sync or relevant for a better choice of a word. I was out Superbowl Sunday and noticed that @ 3200-3300 rpm I was getting somewhere between 29-31 gph on both engines.

Others may want to chime in on this. I don't know if this is good or bad, but for me, it is what it is. That's about what I have always gotten as far as fuel consumption.

I agree with your figures, but the real key is 'it is what it is'. Boy is that ever true. You can beat yourself up trying to make .8 MPG reasonable.

I'm still SO NEW to this boating game that I'm still trying to figure out how do you get to that figure of .8 MPG. Maybe it's on my smartcraft and I haven't found that display screen yet:huh::smt021

travis340 & Kreole Kid ... thank you for the information.

The gas math is always a topic of discussion out on our lake. If I can get .8 mpg with a 225 gal tank I can count on a 180 mile trip. Our challange is that our anchorage is approx. 120 miles one way with no gas stations in between. So, we will need to make some alternatve arrangements.

Best regards,

Brian

Don't do the math, just have a beer and enjoy a great day on the water. Trying to make economic sense out of our boats is a waste of time. I am making your line my new motto: "It is what it is" I love it.
