Hull Number

Any body know the break down on hull numbers and which part of the number is the year model

It can vary based on the model year. I believe this applys to most boats- the last 2 digits in the serial number are the model year. Not sure when or if that changed at any point going back.

The hull number is usually broke into three segments; the manufacture code, serial number, and date of certification being the last set of characters... the year typically being two numbers ie. 98 being a 1998 year of manufacture.

I believe the number is as follows:

The letters and numbers after the SER at the beginning are for plant of manufacture and hull number

Last four digits identify manufacture date and model year
Example, last four digits H506

H = month of manufacture (A= January, B= February...H= Aug)
5 = digit of year of manufacture - here 5 for 2005
06 = model year - here a 2006 model

Hope this helps.

Mine is: SERF9668E303
SER=Sea Ray
F= Merit Island Florida plant
9668= ID #
E303= May, 2003..2003 model year

The last four could be something like
J203, which would mean October,2002..but a 2003 model year

The USCG changed the numbering scheme as of 8/1/84, so much of what is contained above does not apply to the original posters boat.........for his 1980 model, the last 4 digits are the month and year of vessel certification, not when the boat was manufactured.

Mike and Jason

SERV = Tellico located in Vonore, TN.
SERT = Knoxville (corporate HQ)
SERR = Riverview (next door to Knoxville)

When I visited in late 2002 Knoxville was building 280 - 340 DAs along with the 290 Sun Sport. The 290BR may have been in production here as well, but don't recall. Riverview was buiding the 290AJ, 260DA, 270SD and I believe the 180 & 176 BRs.

Are you sure? It has always been my understanding that Vonore was "Vonore"

Also, the date coding changed.

Back then the dates started in August for "A", September for "B", etc... M80D would be Manufactured Nov 1979. C80D would be certified Nov 1979.

Now K506 represents manufactured or certified in Nov 2005, model year 2006.
