That's consistent with some of the pricing that I am seeing these days, you can buy allot of boat today for the mid $30's. I even know someone on this site that bought the same boat as mine but 1 year older in good condition and got it (should say stole it!!) for $35K!!

The bed and the dinette difference on the 27 is a personal prefrence depending on how the boat is used, the beam is actual space, it is adding about 18 square feet to the boat as well as not to mention a 20% increase in weight which tranfers to stability.

I am happy with my 270SE but I do not have any small children. However, the convertible table in the V-Berth is large enough for 4 to dine, play cards, or enjoy a board game. The 270SE is large enough to be used as a cruiser for weekend stays yet small enough to be used as a runabout for running to the beach or dock somewhere for lunch. It is quite a versital vessel.

Thanks to everyone so far for sending me listings of 1999 Sea Ray 270's. I appreciate it. You guys are being very helpful. Keep em coming. I appreciate the info. Hopefully I will be able to give back by answering other peoples questions in the future.

I know I want the Sea Ray. I just have to find the right one. I'll take a look at what you have sent me.

we just went to a bigger boat this spring. we were looking for a boat we could stay on like our 23 WE with some more big boy features. we wanted a dining table you could leave set up, ours had to be put up and down according to vee birth use, a micro-wave, ac-heat pump, built in genset.

I think the model your looking at needs to be either a birth or table but not both at the same time.

we looked at the 270 and 290 sun dancer wanting badly one of these models and putting deposits on 2 different ones only to have the deals go bad.

any way we happened on to a 310 and didnt look back

i would advise you to look a little bigger, you said you wont be trailering and at 11'2" big difference in ride on our 310, and really consider a twin engine boat for safety and handling. you wont be sorry in the end. also the boat you are looking at is high priced compared to what we found this spring and early summer

To echo what everyone else has said, I recently went from a 8.5' beam to a 11' beam and WOW what a difference! The ride, stability and handling difference is amazing! It handles the waves so much better and when you have an un-even load, such as 3 people on port and one on starboard, the boat barely leans if at all, where the 8.5' would feel like it was tipping over! Now I highly doubt there is nearly that drastic of a difference going from 8.5 to 9.2, but the moral is wider is definitely better!!!!

I agree with Lucky, there is really no difference from 8'6 to 9'2. I know there are some 270's with 10' beam, same boat but with twin V6's. 2 motors come in handy when 1 breaks down. (My situation now, I hit a log and blew one motor just yesterday) My 1977 Sea Ray 300 has the 11'6 beam and you can't even tell when someone boards. Georgian Bay is some big water and you will get tossed around. Go bigger if you can. I also agree that 39k is way too much. I have a friend selling a 30' Carver with 11'6 beam, twin merc I/O's, AND on a triple axle trailer for 45k, she is near mint. I also have another 30' x 11'6 Sea Ray with no trailer at 15k. Both are in Kenora Ontario and have a driver who can/will deliver at $4.50 per km. If you're interested I can get you more info.
Best advice, take your time and get the right thing for your needs, not the impulse.
Good Luck and Happy Hunting!!

Mojo,
I moved up from a 260 DA with an 8' beam to a 330 with an 11'6" beam and I can honestly say, GET AS MUCH BEAM AS YOU CAN!!!!! I have 3 small children and I already feel like this boat is a little too small! By the time you pack up all the gear for the weekend, incl: beach chairs, umbrellas, dock chairs, beverages, portable ice maker, etc, etc..., there is less and less available space. Go with as big a boat as you can afford. Trust me you'll be glad you did. If I could swing it finacially I would already be moving up to a 380 aft cabin MY or 460 DA. Good luck with your purchase!! Todd

Yep having a wide a$$ is nice !!.
But not on the Admirals / Girlfriends / Hookers / One nighters . :smt043

I just purchased a 99 270 SE last Tuesday with 263hrs 7.4 Mercruiser Bravo III for $27,250. Purchased in Rhode Island.

We went out this weekend and I have to say the boat goes right through the water and feels very settled. On our way home the water heater sprung a leak and now needs to be replaced but that is all part of being a boat owner, I guess.

Good luck,
Scott v.R.

Things went well. It seems like a straight up boat. It was raining when I went to look at it and the main hatch in the cabin was leaking. They said that they would repair and steam clean the area. We want to put an offer in but I am not willing to pay nearly what they want. I have found through my research that the boat is worth mid to high 20's. The were asking $54000 and then dropped it to $39000. The broker advertised it as "Seller VERY motivated". It will come with a survey. The broker said that it doesn't need a compression test because it is the 7.4L and it only has 450 hours on it, but I think I should still get one to cover my ass. Any advice?
