I have a 1984 340 Sundancer. The 51 gallon fresh water tank has started leaking and I need to replace it. I have found a small removable hatch just outside the door to the head that is fastened by screws. There is no way the tank can come out through this hole and i can not find any additional screws in the carpet where there would be another hatch. Does anyone have experience in this and can give me some pointers on how to get the tank out?

can you post picture where tank is locate? can't remember that model:(
can you see where is leaking from? if yes maybe some local shop can do plastic welding on boat

For a number of models, the tanks are rigged prior to the deck being joined to the hull. Such was the case on my boat. The tank was custom engineered and actually extended in to the swim platform and blocked almost all access to the transom, making rudder access impossible. I had to cut it out in 15 sections and replaced it with a 30 gallon tank instead of 70.

Good luck.

Oh, this will be exciting for you.
The tank should be located under the floor between the port stringers. I have some pics of where mine was. To get it out i had to remove the dinette and pull up the floor. There will most likely be some rotten wood that needs replacing. This depends on where it's leaking and how long it's been leaking.
The water tank can be seen as the orange thing in the center of the pic

The cavity on the left is where the tank used to live.

That going to be a big project
tank was installed before floor
good luck

Thanks for the replys and I guess my fears that this is going to be a big deal are true.

Never Monday, I see your boat is an '89 where mine is an '84. I think about '86 they changed the configuration whereby my table is on the starboard side. Therefore, my tank is in the same spot as yours only mine is starboard where yours is port. Did a little more research this weekend, pulled back the carpet and yep the floor will have to be ripped out. Once i get into the project, i'll post pics and let you know how it goes for anyone who might have this problem in the future.

I know this is a old post but I’m having the same issue as you with the same exact boat. How did you fix it if you don’t mind telling me?
