Hi...

I read that I shouldn't use WD40 to lube the zippers on my camper top as it may/will stain the canvas.

The camper top has never been used in the life of the boat and some of the zippers are stuck.

What have you used to lube zippers on your canvas?

Thanks in advance!

Ron, I take a rag with Vaseline on it to do mine.

Use whatever you can to get them unstuck - just be careful to keep it away from the actual canvas (keep the zipper lower than the canvas so gravity doesn't help the "whatever" soak towards the canvas. Use just a little bit, too - otherwise it may wick towards the canvas no matter what.

For what it's worth, my 1st choice would be PB Blaster.

Once it's free, rinse it off real well with a degreaser and water.

For lubing them, stay away from anything greasy as that will just attract dirt. My preference here is beeswax which can be purchased from a craft store - usually a 1lb block is under $10. Although, you really only need a fraction of that. Rub it into the zipper, then work the zipper back and forth a few times. Works great on the snaps, too (rub it onto the male thread). That 1lb block will likely last you the rest of your life and you can even will it to your kids.

I use this stuff.

Great timing. I need to do this on my jeep zippers as it gets warmer.

I jut had my canvas repaired at a local canas shop and he suggested silicone spray for the zippers.

Some at the marina use Armour all.........

Been boating longer than all these fancy gadgets have been around and been using a simple candle stick to lube my zippers AND snaps. I buy the white ones about 4" long and keep a couple in my emergency kit. So far so good and that's been since the mid 60's...

Same here as my canvas guy told me the same thing..Wax.

It will not attract dirt like liquids he says. Seems logical and works great. Dirt cheap as well.
