240 Sundeck Thread - Questions and Answers

Just get the screws from West Marine or your local hardware store. Just make sure they are SS..

I have a parts manual for the 240 SD but the hardware bits and pices don't seem to show what I eed. I need some small stainless steel screws: 2 machine screws that secure the head latch mechanism to the stainless latch plate, and 5 "wood" screws that hold the helm access door open stop strip in place (I know that there's no wood but they look like small stainless wood scres to me). Does anyone know the specified size so I get the correct hardware? I will try to attach jpegs from the parts manual:

Name on Transom ?

Hi, My New/used 2007 240SD goes in the water May 9th. I want to order the Vinyl letters for the boats name. How big should the letters be ( 2" ?) and how wide can I go?. We are thinking of naming the boat " Chock Full of Nuts II".

Any advise what we helpful. The Marine Max dealer wants $250 but i looks like onle line I can order for less then $50.

Thanks I will suggest looking at the exhaust gaskets.

Jim

Ditto, what you describe sounds just like an exhaust leak. It's not a big deal to replace.

But that temp, if it was true and moving that high, is a problem. 170-175 is where it should hold once warmed up.

It was my understanding SeaRay would not allow a big block engine go in the 240SD so they came out with the 260SD.

They did in 2000 and real early 2001. 7.4 MPI. I used to have one. I do still have the intake plenum, in the attic.

And, it's still got a big block.

I hope that Marine Max includes, installation after a full wet sand, polish and detail with that $250.

It's raining but I have mine here at the house (brought it back form Austin yesterday) so I'll go measure what size I used. I think it was 3 or 3.5". EDIT: Dang, it's chilly out there too! Mine are 3" tall.

We had ours done by a guy referred through our dealer. Can't remember exactly but I want to say it was about $125 & he came to our home to do it.

I still play that video from time to time of yours. One of the sweetest sounding 240SD around:thumbsup:

Re: Name on Transom ?

I launch my new 2007 260 Sundeck April 29th....I had a referral from my dealer put on the letters for me for $185

I'm launching this weekend (hopefully - April 23rd) and I too will be changing the name on the boat, as I purchased it used. I joined BoatUS for $20 at West Marine, when I joined the West Marine Gold Regards club. In doing so, on the BoatUS website they offer a really cool interface to design your own lettering. I think "Smiling Sarah" is going to cost me somewhere around $40. I will remove the old name with a razor, then buff it out.

I might suggest that instead of a razor, you try a heat gun and maybe a plastic putty knife from one of the hardware stores. Most vinyl lettering will come off really easily and make your re-lettering project a snap. If the letters are painted on, use a rag with some acetone instead.

I agree and the acetone will also help with any remaining glue.

Great tips, thanks guys. I will try that instead of the razor.

How tall are the letters 2" or 3" and how wide can we go on the transom 24" , 36" etc.?

Thanks
Les

Does anyone know where the serial number on a Mercruiser 6.2L is located? Preferrable diagram. Also, if anyone has changed their impeller on this model? Any suggestions is appreciated.

Did you get the letters yet from BoatUS? Are you happy with them?

Thanks,

Hello, new to the the 240 Sundeck Site, Just bought a 2006 240 Sundeck and have the wrong size trailer that was sold with the boat, I am having a difficult time finding out what I need, get a different story from every boat dealer I call, can anyone help? located in nashville tn,
Thanks

Michael,
I answered you in the other thread. I got a Magic tilt TML2482 Dual Axle works great.

Hi, mine came with a Road King RKAV-22-24 Rated for 7000 lbs It is a Tandem Axle Aluminum with torsion spring axles and 4 wheel disc brakes.

It is very light. to the point that it almost floats. I can pick it up in the water an move it when someone backs it in crooked. This can be interesting loading though because if you don't hit it straight it will move with the boat. :)

Their Website http://www.roadkingtrailers.com/RKAV.htm

But, I would see what the local dealer puts under the 240 when they sell one. My local dealer sells a Dorsey for around $5000. I was looking at a used trailerless 240 last year and was price checking. Here in landlocked Oklahoma they order all their boars with trailers. The way I understand it, most trailers are made regionally. We have two manufacturers of boat trailers in the city.

Okay dumb question, but with a net carrying capacity of only 5900lbs aren't you pushing it with the 240SD?

Mine has a net capacity of 8200lbs.

Good question. I didn't design it, that is just SeaRay of Greenville put under it.

But as to math, SeaRay says the boat weighs 4860. 65 gallons of fuel is 400 lbs. 20 gallons of water in the holding tank + 20 more in the bilge comes to 320. Add 300 more pounds of gear and ski stuff and I am at 5880. So yes, I guess I am running close. Thanks for pointing that out.

Funny thing is that I had it weigh last year on the way to the lake and the public scales showed 6010 on the axles plus 520 on the tongue.

Just a thought, but I wonder if the listed weight is the trailer capacity, or just the cheap 14" tires that they put on it?
