Exuma trip this summer?

How many boats will be going directly to Nassau from the east coast w/o overnighting in Bimini or Chub Cay? Secondly, I have a 44 SB with 350 g tank. Can you guys with similar boats get there w/o refueling at Bimini? Thanks,

I'll go direct without refueling. It also saves some of the check in hassle as then we can check in at Nassau.

Great deal on the marina. I'm a little surprised they don't have a minimum stay.

Fuel issue is iffy for me as I only carry 800 gallons. I'll try and stretch it though. I may have to stop at Bimini and Chub. The way I navigate who the heck knows. One wrong pull of a lever or push of a button and voila your in Cuba.

I think Anya already booked us there a couple of weeks ago on both sides of the Exumas dates not knowing what everyone else was doing. We requested the slips along the entrance canal next to the marina pool & hot tub. Smaller boats and not too many slips right there, but it's nice being next to that pool. Wifi didn't work so well since it's at the fringe and a little more boat traffic, but being next to that pool & hot tub is great.

I'm pretty sure I'll be going straight to Nassau. My boat holds 400 gallons and according to my calculations, I'll use around 260 to get there.

Mike - "only carry 800 gallons"...... While Jack is at the blackjack table in Atlantis, we can siphon off 100 gallons each, he'll never know it.

Jack - while Mike and Anya are in the hot tube, we can siphon off his fresh water, he'll never know it.

Diversion --- we'll most likely be stopping in Bimini or Chub on the way over. Possibly both. I've always been more about the journey than the destination so we never rush to go straight there. Sometimes we fuel at the Cat Cay Yacht Club and check in to get it out of the way, then drop anchor behind Gun Cay. Then get up early and take a slow cruise across the bank and make the Nassau vs Chub decision based on time of day, weather, etc.. So, if you're not in a hurry to get to Nassau, keep this option in mind.

Mike,

Is the check in at Cat pretty easy? Tom

It's very easy to stop at Cat and get fuel and walk right up to the check-in. Honestly though, it is typical Bahama time -- if someone is in the office, they'll process it quickly. If they happen to be out at lunch or somewhere, you don't know how long you will have to wait for them to get back. They're on their own time!! If you plan to get fuel, then it's worth trying to check-in there. If nobody is there or if you don't want to get fuel, just motor on and check in on-site at the Atlantis. I checked in there last year and it was pretty quick once the person arrived (they had to call someone to come from somewhere else on the island). The last time I checked-in at Chub, it was a hassle. I had to go to the airport so I'd advise against that unless they've changed anything there.

Where's everyone going after Green? Chub doesn't seem that much farther and it's kinda on the way back. I as always will go with the group so let me know where your stayin.

I would be game at stopping at Chub on way back in liu of Nassau. Never been there. Heard there is not much to it but would be a different locale for me.

You bring up a good point. It's always nice to visit new places.

I know that Chub is in the middle of very tough times. The developer defaulted and the project went back to the lender. Last summer, they didn't run the generators during the day so the slips only had power at night. They were also out of fuel at times. I believe the restaurant stayed open but I don't know if any of those things changed. The dock rates and fuel costs are very high at Chub. The anchorage just outside of the harbor is nice and protected in an east wind. Chub's claim to fame has always been fishing in the Pocket.

There is another alternative if you are looking to stop at a new place on the way back. In doing the research for laying out this trip for a gas boat with my fuel capacity I ran into the Andros Lighthouse Yacht Club and Marina which is on Andros on the way from Green to Chub.

Just another thought

Any one have "boat projects" they need to get done before the Trip of a Lifetime? I do...

Change the port engine raw water pump
Service the generator (oil change, filter change, etc)
Re-do the cockpit shade canopy
Install new anchor line
a couple other things

Randy,
Got a few things but until you get here to do them I'm stuck.
Are there any good surf spots in the Exumas? I was thinkin about draggin my 12 footer along for the trip.

Jack

Get a grill set up of some kind
Get rid of some engine rust
Maybe a whole new boat is that mean spirited wife would let me

Ran to Miami on Thursday and the boat has never run better. Lot's of Dolphins

Went to Dania swap today. Dock lines at least 50% off. I bought a dock box that was $500+ easy for $300 cash.

I'm ready for the Exumas and Bimini.

Good to hear it. I can't wait either.

I've got some big mods planned, but to be announced later.

Randy, Chris is working on a spreadsheet for the two trips. Do you have the captains list tallied? If so, shoot it to us and she can incorporate it into her spreadsheet. I think she has most of the reservations booked, but I wanted them summarized. I will then have her send it to everyone.

Make sure you stop at the "Yellow Rocks" between Exuma and Nassau. Great diving that is far enough away from both islands that it doesn't get much traffic except for crossings. I have been very luck in lobster season snorkling in that area. Watch out, some of the rocks are just a few feet underwater, but it is very easy to visually navigate as the big rock are spread out and there is pure white sand between them.
