Exhaust risers do it yourself??

You must be very proud - that's the 3rd time you've posted the same thing in this thread....
 
The total for both engines cost around $3500.00 for exhaust and elbows/risers, gaskets, fittings etc
I used original Mercruiser parts...
Water heater, $180.00
 
I've traded a few e-mails w/ Allen at Hitek marine. Warranty is 5 years. What I found to be interesteing is that there parts are 1 piece. Seems like a good idea, less places to leak. Allen says they've cut them apart after 11 years of use and found them to be in like new condition. Claims 25% increase in HP and fuel economy. For my little 4.3l V-6's its' $1750/engine delevered to my door. Waiting on mercruiser OEM parts price... Are all OEM parts priced the same? Does it make a difference who I by mercruiser parts from?
 
Where you buy from doesn't matter other than what you pay for the same parts. B0ATFlX.C0M has always proven to be the best prices and they shipped 250lbs of cast iron to me in about 36 hours for $22. I'd be interested to see what they would have charged for your parts. You should run the part numbers on their site to see.

It's intersting that your system cost, in parts, what mine would cost with parts and labor. Imagine what the new catalytic converter systems will cost to replace when they start failing. YIKES!!!!
 
I talked to a Merc engine guy at the Baltimore boat show and he said that the catalytic convertors will last about five years and cost about $1500 each plus I assume a manifold. OUCH! Looks like no new crate motors in my future, REMAN SHORT BLOCKS FOREVER! LOL

I notice the discussion went into Hi-teks, yes they are a Australian company and claim UP TOO 25% increase, on a normal engine you wont notice the horsepower per dollar that they are fetching and a side note, they are built in China, not in Oz land
 
and to add, I have 2 beautiful sets, Mercruiser low hour, BBC center rise manifolds with spacers and elbows. if you post your number I'll call you. they came from a burned out low hour Sea-ray, they are ready to bolt on, corrosion free

Yes, that is full retail. Don't quote me on this, but if I remember correctly, "by the book" labor is somewhere between 4 and 6 hours. Keep in mind that's per engine - both the parts and the labor.

I've been looking for mainfolds and risers for our boat but can't seem to find a 'Mercruiser' branded replacement. I found Osco, Sierra, GLM and others but nothing 'Mercruiser' are OEM replacement parts not available online?
 
I'm at the ordering step..Will ceramic coated aluminum manifolds work in salt water?

Ceramic is better for salt water. If you're freshwater cooled, you don't need to spend the extra hundreds on ceramic coated stuff.
 
Who did you find that had a good price on the ceramic coated aluminum manifolds
 
Aluminum? OK, I didn't catch that. I've never seen aluminum manifolds, ceramic or otherwise. Not saying they don't exist, just that I've never heard of it.
 
My boat is fitted with a Seacore 350Mag and the manifolds and risers are in the closed cooling loop. The raw water is pumped straight into the exhaust elbows. I'm looking to remove the elbows and replace them as a preventative measure. I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with the Seacore set up (ie is there any need to remove the manifolds and risers if they are in the closed cooling loop) and also, I assume the gaskets I require will have the water section completely closed as per the photo below...

Best prices on OEM I've found was from here http://www.pbsboatstore.com/

They carry the OEM Mercruiser/Quicksilver, and most other replacement brands too. Don't forget to buy the gaskets..

Even with shipping my local Mercruiser dealer wouldn't touch "PBS's pricing for the very same part numbers.......shipped from the same warehouse...I tried to buy local!

I just completed my first manifold riser job ,It went pretty well, my only concern is I never used a torque wrench before
after I was shown how to use it I may have tightened the bolts a little to tight ,now they are at factory specs . Does any one see a problem?
