I know this is not a very popular thing to do but my Wife wants it on the boat. I got away with not having it last year but I am goin to have to break down and get it installed.

I have a 1995 215 EC. It has a pump out so I am guessing I attache the larger pump hose and also the on-board water system hose. My question is what chemicals do I need for the porta potty as well as what chemicals to I need to put in the on-board water tank to keep that clean. Also, how often do I change the water in the on-board holding tank? I have a sink as well but have never used it. Below is a picture of where the porta potty goes.

Thanks for the help!

Eric

porta potty has own water tank, there is no need to connect to boat water system.
there is no need to put any chemicals to water tank. put some Liquid Head Chemical straight to porta potty holding tank.
you already have pump-out, just install vent hose with in-line filter
buy msd porta potty with pump out

Many people warn against installing the fresh water line to a toilet, unless specifically designed for such installation, such as in a Vacuflush. In most manual toilets you run a raw water line from a seacock to the toilet. Idea is to prevent any possible contamination of your fresh water system.

But your porta potti may not even need a water line. It may have a built in tank that you manually fill.

Make sure there are no bends in the pump out hose and install the vent line as straight as possible.

Go see your local sea ray dealer. The 215 used factory portapotties. They are self contained units. You should be able to purchase one and just hook up the pump out hose to it and be done with it. They have a freshwater holding tank in them with a built in pump to pump freshwater in to them. No need for holding tanks either because it's built into the unit, thats where the pump out hose will connect. If you do get the factory porta potti get the one with the 5-6 gal. holding tank.

As mentioned, port-a-pottis are self contained. The water you use for "flushing" is in a separate tank right on the potti. There are typically two lines for an external pump out. One is a vent line and one will be used for the actual pump out itself. When I had my port-a-potti on my 240SD, many times I just removed the whole unit and emptied it down a toilet rather than use the pump out. So the choice is yours.

Get yourself some good deodorizer for the holding tank and also get toilet paper designed for a port-a-potti. Both of these items are available at Marine Supply stores or Camper supply stores or in the RV section of places like Wal Mart.

If you want more information on the units themselves that are normally installed by Sea Ray, here is the web site for SeaLand and you can download whatever you need including installation instructions. http://www.sealandtechnology.com/productpages.asp?pid=41

Changing holding tanks on one of these puppies.....

Hi - ressurrecting this thread:
Just picked up my ("new") 2000 260DA. It has the port-a-potty, with the waste held in the bottom portion. There is a pump-out hose connected, so I don't have to disassemble anything to empty it.
However, with two small kids on board, they go to the bathroom once every ten minutes.
If I wanted to swap out the bottom holding tank (I have the smallish - 3 Gal tank) with the larger 5.2 Gal model, do I need to buy a whole new unit, or can I keep the top portion?
I'm naiively assuming removing the bottom tank, changing hoses, etc, isn't rocket science.
Thanks in advance,
KeithD

i think you need new unit
i don't think that mounting latches will be long enough to keep it locked in the position

Not certain which brand you have. Our 2006 215WE came with a SaniPottie - Sealand Brand - Dometic Corporation. It has a 2.8 gallon holding tank. I too thought that was small.

Last week at a marine industry event, I spoke with the factory rep and he indicated that the smaller holding tank could be swapped out for the larger 5.2 gallon tank. Since they are located only 20 miles from where I live, and he didn't want to ship his sample home, he gave me his sample at no charge. :smt038 I haven't had a chance to see if it can be switched.

If you have the same brand they can be contacted at 800-321-9886.

Yes you can change out the smaller holding tank with the larger one, that is exactly what I did on my 240. You do have to change out the side hold down brackets with longer ones, but you can buy them separately too. I went through Power House Marine in La Crosse WI.(http://www.powerhousemarine.com/) very friendly and helpful. Give them a call and they will tell you exactly what you need to order.
