Well did Some of the Better Technical Posters leave CSR?

What is sad along with interesting is if you go back a couple of years and look at some of the earlier posts, things were much different. I just went back and looked at jg300da's posts from 2006 - 2007 frankly just wondering "where did this sh!t go south?" He joined and had meaningful and nice dialogue with a lot of people (even sent a rod holder to someone). But here's the thread that "changed everything":

http://clubsearay.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3927

It started with the whole "big boat guys" vs "little boat guys" with me discussing how I don't like 5 dock hands jumping on my boat when I pull into a marina... Heck.. Even the conversations with KEARNEY were cordial... But it took this twisted turn of "you should feel lucky for what you got" attitude. Then there was the followup thread:

http://clubsearay.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4027

Stuff started going downhill after that... like this:

http://clubsearay.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5485

I'm not posting these threads to get in anyone's face... just trying to figure out what drove so much hatred/bitterness. His first crack at FrankW was during that time.

I even went back and looked at the first "bad" exchanges with kearney and w1ngless. Kearny got upset because he stated that wi-fi didn't work well in a boat because of the rocking motion and I asked him if his boat was rocking at 2.5 MHz. All went downhill and he called me a jackass. With w1ngless, I started a thread on raw water flow sensors and he started riding me about my lack of skills on boat operation and impellers.

Yes.. I have a list of people that are pissed off and maybe I poked a little more than I should of. I don't recall coming out and blasting someone for no reason though... I admit after w!ngless started his "I'm a perfect boater" attitude and putting down my boating skills, I probably went too far with the stuffed duck. But man... it was funny... you have to admit the pot smoking duck was funny... and when the guy kept coming back under different names... well..

There are some strange people out there and I guess some of us had the impression if you had enough resources to own a Sea Ray, you probably were not a psycho... That was wrong. I went back and looked at when that AZ guy first attacked and it was out of the blue because I pointed out that "fresh water" was actually ******** and the AZ guy went ballistic... not just in his post... but started PM'ing me and a few other people about me and how I was going to be his "project". Ignoring him did not make him go away.. it made him angrier.

I'm not posting this to relive all that but I know it creeped me out and a lot of other people when w!ngless posted a picture of my house (I don't recall ever posting a picture of my house on CSR) and my wife got a really creepy letter from Trenton, NJ. No one deserves that.

I don't like a boating board that has "anonymous" people. It doesn't work for me. It may for others... but I prefer to know who I'm talking to. I know a lot of people on CSR outside of CSR... that should not be a surprise to anyone.

I respect this is Jim's site and it's whatever he wants it to be. But it may not be what some other people want it to be and so it's time to move on. I pretty much have a target on my back with a few people and I even posted over here today:

http://clubsearay.com/forum/showthread.php?t=26169

And was told I was full of crap (which is fine and I could care less but if *I* say someone is "full of crap", it's a different story).

So... I am just saying this: "Maybe it's time we see other people." Frankly, I like to write and I have a certain style and CSR is probably not the place to put it. So let Jim and crew take CSR where their vision is and maybe I will find a more appropriate venue for my stuff as well. I think there is little hope of repairing the jg300da type of relationships in the forum. I haven't posted much in the past month and look at the crap that is still escalating. It can't be all me.... and I'm pretty sure the AZ guy is back under a different name... it's not hard to figure out.

No hard feelings... and I'll poke in and read about how a single engine boat doesn't hit logs like a twin engine boat from time to time... and maybe answer the occasional fluid dynamics question... I do have a lot of content on CSR with pictures and I think 1000 out of my 7000 posts may actually be useful to someone somewhere.

I did read Uplate's response in this thread and agree with and appreciate what he wrote.

One last thing. Before people start going on about "You need to always be anonymous", take a look at this:

http://www.threeatsea.com/Home.html

I think certain people enjoy watching stuff like that... I even see in this thread the comment of "ego's and promoting blogs." I'm not really sure my "ego" drove my blog... it was just fun to write and that thing had over 10,000 unique visitors to it... what's wrong with that?

Anyway...

Carry on.

Ok I just read the whole story. Sat down with a beer, got to post #88 "Ass Clown" and got anouther beer. Finished the read, got anouther beer and did a search for ass clown. 55 thread hits. Looked through a couple with very few responces and found clown and ass, but no "ass clown". Sure am glad this all went on in the Tiki Bar. cheers to all ... happy new year ... Ron

PS ... I really need the 2010 boating season to start
Ron, You spent New Years Eve searching for "Ass Clowns"? You really DO need the 2010 boating season to start.:smt043

Gary, The "letter" came from Trenton NJ??? Now that makes perfect sense. Living in NJ my whole life I can tell you nothing good has ever come from Trenton. I'm glad to see you back. Sincerely, Brian

Gary-

I can appreciate the effort involved for such a post with attached links. This is not something that happens without a lot of time spent on research. It was an interesting read.

My opinion is to ignore any post that is obviously posted to stir up conflict and bash others, no matter how much you want to fire back (I have learned).

If no one responds to these posts, then the poster has lost what they desire...conflict. No matter how you may feel about it, Ignore it, and once they realise they can not stir it up they will go away eventually.

Stay Here or not, peace and happy motoring to you and your family..

I won't stand by when someone takes a shot at Frank.....that is nonsense and you should be ashamed of yourself. A review of Frank's posts for the past year show a guy who sincerely tries to help other boaters either in public postings or on private emails.

Frank has saved CSR owners hundreds of thousands dollars with his analysis and expertise. Can you say the same for your contribution?

If you want a social networking site where you can make superficial comments, be bitter to your heart's content or insult people please find another one. There is no "value add" in your behavior to make this a better place.

-John

BTW I put my money on the line for this site. I advertise on CSR because people like Frank make it the best independent Sea Ray resource available. That's what brings people to this site and keeps them here.

+ 1, Simple math, FrankW contributes freely and honestly. jg300 just comments. JG, I respect your right to comment in this forum, but until you actually contribute, hold your tongue before criticizing those who actually are here to educate and help.

Yeah, I know Frank is a big boy and can take care of himself. But he also needs to know that other people appreciate his help.

Henry

Personally, I am a big fan of both Frank W. and Playdate.

PlayDate's words of wisdom has saved me significant trouble and big bucks on my boat. My only regret is that I don't see more of his posts.

Frank W. has not helped me directly. . .but only because he mostly speaks about bigger boats with equipment (like, Cats) that I don't have. Still, his knowledge and wisdom is clear.

Neither individual delves into the ad hominem attacks that have brought so much bitterness.

I raise my glass to both individuals

I don't know about all the crap, not sure I want to let it consume me. BUT....I only have one question for Four Sons, (Gary).

How in the hell am I going to get a copy of your book?

If you pm me with an address to send payment, or someway to get one, I promise I won't stalk you.

I think you have a better chance at seeing God first, Before you see the book. . :smt043. :smt043

Why can't everyone just IGNORE the dumb-asses that you don't care about??? Just ignore them and they will become irrelevent...Ric

Someone else said the same thing & I agree 100%. No audience & they'll go away.

Maybe I'm in the minority here but I just can't see the point of arguing with anyone on an internet forum. If they don't share my opinions so what? I don't agree with a lot of what's said & done on here but I sure don't let it stress me out :smt009

Someone wants to light a candle in their bilge to check for fumes I feel an obligation to tell them and anyone else contemplating the same thing they might want to rethink that. If they then give me 100 reasons why they think it's ok to do that then so be it. Have a nice after life.......

Amen. Again, its a pretty simple concept and one which makes internet forums go round and round. I don't care if you are discussing cruise ships or beanie babies, forums hit a certain mass at some point and you will not get all like-minded individuals. Its simply impossible.

I am going to close this thread. Its the same peope talking about the same crap that has already been discussed lots before.

And to the poster that said I let anybody join the forum because I want them to be a customer of BOE Marine. Huh? Club Sea Ray is free for anybody to join. Whether they are a customer of my company or not. The two are not related whatsoever. The only thing my company even uses this site for is some banner ads and shopping links that are non-intrusive. I don't even have a link in my signature.

That same poster was also in amazement that we allow trolls to join the site. Well, I do not have my own personal CIA that profiles everybody on the internet and can pick out the trolls to disallow them on the site. Not possible. What I can do is delete them or ban them when they show themselves which we do often. Its usually the same few folks logging in froma hotel or library or some IP I can't delete. Its amazing that losers like this exist. But they do.
