Well did Some of the Better Technical Posters leave CSR?

I have not seen any post or replies by some of these users.

If so, it is a sad commentary, to me it just reinforces what is happening in much of our society today. "It's all abut me."

As I for one do not consider them to be elite, but far from it. I admit I looked forward to many of their comments about issues, and I even sent a few some PM's regarding issues.

So to those who have left, my regards.

I have seen Frank still posting, but then Frank is not the childish type either. It would appear that some got mad and decided to take all their toys and find another sandbox. Guess we will just have to make do with those that are left.

It's winter, close to the holidays and half of us have our boats winterized. It'll pick up and the dust will settle from all other stuff that had happened.

Looks like people are still joining daily so maybe a rebirth is in the makings.
.

This forum will not fold due to a few leaving anymore than my company folding if I, or anyone else for that matter, leaves. Others will join to take up the slack.

We need a way to flag anyone with a boat winterized - therefore if they state offensive comments we know they are just suffering with the winterization blues.

I think the thing that seems to get people irritated the most is telling people all the things wrong with a model boat when the poster doesn't own that boat and/or the jokes are often misunderstood by newbies. So maybe we can take it easy on anyone with less than 10 post? But post 11 let it rip.

+1....I'm going to add a disclaimer to my signature.

Some may have left - I'm hoping they come back as I enjoy learning something everyday. After all - sharing knowledge about our hobby is what this site is all about.

I'm not sure about hitting people up after 11 posts... I've got over 1000 and still don't get some people's humor. But I'm mature enough to just leave the post alone and watch others take the bait. I'm hear to learn about boats and for the most part mission accomplished.

Maybe it's just me but I feel like this forum is drifting towards the sport boat/sport cruiser size boats. Possibly because Gary dominated most of the threads and there are some notable sport yacht members that seem to be missing lately. Also, there seems to be alot more newbies than in the past and they generally start out with smaller boats. I'm not trying to start trouble I'm just saying there isn't much going on in the sport yacht forum lately. So I guess I agree that we may have lost some valuable contributors, hopefully they are just taking a little break.

Let the flames begin...:smt021

*disclaimer - my boat is on the hard for the next 5 months...*

There are also those that when they pack up the boat for the winter they unpack the winter toys and start playing in the snow, ice fishing or whatever they do in the winter and very rarely hit the boat forums. I am on several other boat forums, they are all dead right now.

The ringleader got castrated for disclosing private personal info on a public forum, and all his henchmen followed. It's got nothing to do with winter or boats on the hard or holidays.

I say just ask a duckbill question or post a crooked antenna picture and half of them will be back ....they wouldn't be able to help themselves

And this is the type of posting which serves no value except to try and stir things up. Give it a rest.

Good idea...

IMHO I think CSR is a good source for Merc and general boating DIYs and it still has outstanding post to response ratio.
I much prefer this over my old Formula Forum that is censored and has terrible/shameful post to response ratio.
Im thinking the winter has a significant impact on boating forums and not only ours but others too.

+100. Let's keep it to boats and stop stirring the pot.

I don't normally respond to Tiki bar or any other political or non-boating threads but I thought I'd let you all know I enjoy this site better than my old Bayliner Owners Club site. On BOC I get tired of the non-boating banter and when the new posts hit 50% non boating, I find it hard to go back in and don't post. I normally take a 5-6 month leave of absence and visit occasionally to see what is happening on that site. So far, its only been a week since I left them and they are still running about 50% non-boating...:smt089

I left The Hull Truth for the same reasons...

I see that many experts just leave a forum when Admin allows or does not reign in the non-boating threads... Here they do a good job of self monitoring...

I applaud you guys and gals for not "taking the bait" offered by non-boaters...

keep it up... :smt038

and

Merry Christmas!

Thanks Doug......

And with winter, the holidays and other winter activities I would not be too worried about it. I am a ski instructor in the winter and my boating days go down to a number I can count on one hand.....But come spring... LOOKOUT !!!

Merry Christmas all !!!!
