SO i bought a brand new starter hooked it up and i am still just getting a clicking sound? Any ideas?

I am reading 11 volts on the dash so i assume i am getting enought battery power to crank it?

Is there something else i should check?

Yea i posted on that one too. It looks like they sugested replacing the slave solenaid.

Should i replace that?

So to test the voltage do i put one end of the tester on the ground cable of the battery and one on the positive of the starter and see if i get 12 volts when the keys turns or should it be constant?

Also measure directly at the battery to check condition of cables (not definitive, but will give a good idea).

I suspect your batteries may be toast. Lazy Daze is sending you in the right direction.

So if i put a lead of the metter on the negative side of the battery and one on the positive what should it read 12?
How would i know if it was the cables or how would i know which cable if not both?

A fully charged battery should read about 12.4 (someone help - is that about right?).

Checking at the battery gives you a reference to not only if they are charged (and holding a charge if you check them over time), but by checking at the battery and at the starter you can compare numbers. You shouldn't see much of a drop, if anything. If you do, you can do a voltage drop test to check cables. But, look at the cables - if there's obvious corrosion, just replace them since that corrosion has more than likely worked it's way up inside the cable.

I had the starter just click on a previous boat (1999 5.7 mercruiser) and replacing the slave solenoid did the trick. Easy inexpensive job. (Assuming your batteries are good)
