The work on the route 70 bridge is still not complete, no surprise there, but does anyone have any idea when the work is slated for completion??? In any case, this summer is sure to be a very difficult passage underneath that bridge. Also, the gas dock at crystal point is dangerously close to the new bridge and navagating to the gas dock will prove to be difficult, has the new bridge made the gas dock at CP completely impossible to use??? anyone been there since construction was started?

devonv, where will you be keeping your boat? It looks like another summer of loud banging at Marine Max. :smt021

Hi Bridog

Hello again, Last year we spoke. I am Kinid from SRO forum. Anyhow, Im at G31 in MM. Certainly looks like another summer of banging, firetrucks and idleing through constuction zones hoping steel beams dont come crashing down through your hull.

I drove over the old bridge two Sunday's ago. The new bridge actually looked pretty much done. It looks more like now they have to work the approach roads on either side....but that is a land based observation...things may be very different from underneath.

Your LNM says it is scheduled to be completed in 2009. They also say 25' clearance at MHW. The Route 35 bridge is scheduled to be operational tomorrow.

:smt089 DECEMBER 2010????!!!!!
are you kidding? i agree with dominic. it seems that only the approaches are incomplete, and, as of weekend of feb 24th, the west side approach was paved, the east side was graded and gravelled. i cant imagine how it'll take another 3years 9 months to complete. i have no idea what impact it'll have on the marina's below, but i'm sure crystal point's business will not suffer.

Only half of the bridge is built. Cars will use new bridge both ways, while the old bridge is removed. The second half of new bridge has to be built. A long way to go.

Ok, that makes sense with regards to the projected finish date. i didnt realize they would be building a second span. we use that bridge every weekend in the summer (sat morn to the shore, sunday eve to get home) and it is just not that heavily travelled. go figure

It looks like we will be neighbors. I'm moving to F dock this year. F14. Looking forward to seeing you at the dock.

"The Manasquan River navigation channel under Route 70 Bridge will be closed to boaters from April 16-29, according to George Harms Construction Co.
The channel will be closed as construction crews demolish the old steel span on the Route 70 bridge, which runs between Brielle and Brick"

From the Asbury Park Press 4/4/2007 Staff Report.

WOW. i guess they're almost finished with it. i went over said bridge last friday and they just had to blacktop over the road that crosses 70 by the marine max (dont know the name). so i guess they'll get 'er done in a week or so.
thanks for the info dom

Just heard a preliminary report on the radio......the barge working on the bridge overturned.....two men flown to hospital.....one missing....divers are in the water searching....I hope it works out well for the families....

Anyone else having a heck of a time with all the concrete dust? I'm across the river at McCarthy's, and My black canvas is now gray. Somehow all the dust is even making it's way through the canvas, and still covering the interior of my boat. I figure you guys at marine max are farther away from the actual demolition, but it's disgusting. The water is gray, and the clouds of concrete dust is ridiculous. I went down today, and washed the boat. Before I could get the covers back on, it was already covered in dust once again.

Shouldn't they be using water, or those drop down tarps you see when they work on road bridges and overpasses? I'm about ready to start making calls to OSHA, because noe of the wokers there are even wearing respirators. Or maybe the DEP. That can't be good for the wildlife that lives in the river.

To be honest I have not noticed any dust. :smt017 but... I'm the second to last dock AWAY from the bridge at MM so maybe I'm getting lucky. Since your at McCarthy's do you have a Boston Whaler? Nice boats

Actually, I have a 175 sport. Bought it at MM, but slip it at Mccarthy's. But i'm ready to pull it out of the water and trailer it due to all the demolition dust and debris, and considering I do about 80% of my boating in the bay. I just found out today that due to the difficulties they are having, they are going to be blasting some of the concrete supports out of the water. Namely, the 2 pieces on either side of the channel.
