Remote Trim Switch

Nah, just a new design.

I know what you mean about trying to stretch those last few snaps on. A bit of beeswax can help make them snap on/off easier (snap lube can attract dirt), but you still gotta stretch it.
The transom snaps really gave us fits at first but Kim has it down to a science now.
After all the canvas has been snapped on the rest of the boat she sits on the transom with her back to the boat interior then scooches her butt down toward the swim platform. It stretches the canvas enough to snap the last 3 or 4 snaps. Fun to watch too

LOL, with out pictures that post just does not compute (Grin)

OK.........I'm probably going to get shot for putting this up on the internet.

Makes me glad I have the bungies and not the snaps back there :) I see you still have your stickers, mine have fallen off twice I gave up on them.

That photo was taken in March of 06......my stickers are long gone too :smt001

LOL! I was trying to think of a way to easily describe that exact procedure to you! It's funny how many people do this same thing! Gotta luv boaters!

Scott you had better hide now, what did you say Kim's email was? (Grin)
After seeing that and hearing from the others I am sure glad we got to bunchie type. I think Judy would make me do it and is sure does not look like fun. (Grin)

Lol........I actually told her about it but was quick to explain it was only a "G" rated March picture. Pretty safe to say if I put one up from say July or August I won't be making any more posts......ever

Chuck, would you mind telling me where you got the switch???? I have been looking for a replacement for mine (for cosmetic reasons). I was told my switch was discontinued. I was also told by Sea Ray that the same remote trim switch which is used on many 2009 Sea Rays was discontinued.

Looks good

and I'm still envious of your garage...........

If I may: The same switch has been used on every Sea Ray for years and years. It's available from any dealer - it's a Merc part, I'm sure you can find other places, too. The only difference is whether you have a round plug at your trim motor or a flat switch.

My local shop (Great people only problem is they are Evinrude Deal not Mercury) ordered it from their supplier. As Lasy Daze said. It is a standard Mercury / Quicksilver part. You just need to to know how old yours is.

Thanks guys, I did not realize it was a Merc part. I was going by the Part # listed in the SR parts Manual. Does anyone know where I can find a Merc parts manual or cross-reference so I can find the Merc p/n for the switch on my 2003 225WE?

Thanks!
Jason

Don't even worry about a part number. Just call a Merc dealer (or a Sea Ray dealer) and tell them what you want. They'll know. In fact, don't go by a parts list - best thing is to visually check what you have.

The only info they'll need from you is whether it's a round plug or a flat one. Look at your trim pump - you'll see what I mean - it's a "weather resistant" rubber plug.

I had a switch added to the back of the transom by my SR Dealer. It was abot 250 -300 if I remember correctly, but I wanted any installation covered under warranty. It is also listed as an option in the brochure. I had the transom trim switch, radio controls and underwater lights added back there.

This is something that once i started reading i want to get done as well. But a few questions for an 08 like i have i guess i should order the part that has the pins? And the last question is the marina i called they quoted the price for around 50 bucks i guess i should have asked but is that just the switch or the switch and wiring you need to complete the job?

It comes as a kit - wiring and switch. I'm not sure what you mean by "pins". But, as I mentioned above - just tell them what you have and they'll get you the right thing. This is a pretty "cut and dry" thing.

What about the Trim Guage not working? I think that's a new thread. I have a 7.4L BIII outdrive and the trim guage doesn't work.

Ron, is the gauge pegged all the way up? The most common thing to happen is for the trim senders to fail. They come in a set - the trim position indicator (likely your problem) and the trim limit switch - for about $100. It'll take a shop a good couple hours to do the job. Some have used a "cut and splice" method with success - personally I've never done it so I don't want to say one way or the other.

What/where are these switches?

-- They are both located on the side of the gimbal ring - the gimbal ring surrounds your outdrive.

-- They both look like a plastic hockey puck (maybe 1/2 to 2/3 the size of a real puck)

-- The Trim Limit Switch is on the port side and will say Trim Limit on it. This is your safety switch that keeps your drive from being trimmed too far up when using the trim button.

-- The Trim Position Sender is on the starboard side and will say Trim Position on it. This tells the gauge's needle where to go.

One thing you could try before replacing them is to check to see if the trim position sender moved out of position:

-- With the key "on" but without the engine running, trim the drive all the way down. If I'm guessing right, your gauge needle will still show full up. Next, have someone watch the gauge while you loosen the (2) larger Phillips-head screws and rotate the assembly. See if you can rotate it enough to cause the needle to go full down.
