Official 290 Sundancer Thread

Yep, I think my light is bad. I may pull the panel and check it.

Last question for the day - I have what appears to be either a flag pole mount or grill mount on my transom right behind the cockpit rear seat but on top of the ledge of the transom.

Is this something I can use for mounting a grill? Is there a special piece of hardware that fits in there and places the grill out over the swimplatform?

If it looks small enough for a flag it is likely not a grill mount. Grill mounts are typically rod holders. I have my grill mounted on the starboard side with the rod holder mounted backwards.

Yeah, I bet its designed for a flag mount. I'll look closer and measure it this weekend and see what size the grill post mounts are. If it is, I may see if I can just enlarge that existing mount by putting a rod holder there for the grill. I've never done the flag thing.

Its a flag pole mount. Your seller kept the flag too.

For any of you that have the TV/DVD/Gameport option in the aft cabin, any chance you can snap a few quick pics of its set up when you're on your boat?

My first project is going to be taking the 15in stock TV in the cabin and move it to the back for the kids and hook up their PS2.

Then, I'm going to add a larger screen TV- with a thinner frame- to the main cabin . I'd like to have it only take up the same amount of space but the bezel on that stock TV is ridiculously thick. I'm thinking at least a 17 inch of 19 inch screen could fit in there.

Bill - I have the same "flag pole mount" - I wonder if the factory did this or it was a MarineMax thing....

I found a great flag pole set at Dania Flea Market that fits perfectly in that holder. I will try to remember to write down the manufacturer when I am on my boat this weekend.

I will be going to Sarasota this weekend for a couple nights of boating....Sunny and 90! Got to Love Florida!!!!!

Have you considered a swim platform mounted pedestal grill?
Much more convenient to cook while standing on the swim platform.

Just a thought.

Maybe it's just me..but the way the swim platform is made on the 290...Well...It's just too pretty to put a drill to it.

I'm thinking of getting a Magma ...just using the little legs and putting down one of those fireproof rugs to cook on the platform...

Groucho

I have had a Magma for years and struggled with the right option to mount on the new 290. I had always used a rail mount on th 215 EC.

IMHO I found the perfect mount. I purchased the rail/bulkhead mount from Magma. I drilled 4 small holes low, just above the gunnel level, on the starboard side radar arch. The rationale being for this mount was as follows:

1. It is "out" of the boat but with easy access.
2. The cockpit bar and sink are "next" to the grill which eases use.
3. It is a very sturdy mount as you have access to the back side by removing the speaker panel, So, it is bolted on with SS bolts and has a plate on the backside as well. It comes with the mount.

I hope that is clear, as again, IMHO, It is the best mount option on the new 290's. And.. easy!!

Thanks for the tip Don,
It does look like that might be the best placefor a hard mount...
Now I'll have to wait for Fathers day to see if I get one or I have to GO get one...

Thanks again

Conch'd Out,

I would use this opportunity to pick up a nice chrome anchor off of E-Bay. The chrome will put you back a couple of Ben Franklin's but it will be worth it.

BTW - Sea Ray had an option on the front anchor of all chain for the rode. I don't know if anyone bought it, but it was only a few bucks more than the standard rope/anchor. Seemed like a bargain if you were spec'ing out a boat.

How deep was the water you lost it in? Any chance of going back and diving for it?

Good Luck!:smt001

Sorry my internet has been out. I bought another anchor, rope and chain cost me 320.00 installed it this weekend but where the rope and chain connect it gets stuck in the windlassand I have to manually feed that part through. Hoping that it will wear in.
Lost the other anchor in about 20' of water and I know where it is. We will try to find it as the water warms up.

Agreed. No way am I drilling into my swim platform. I'm going to explore the option of modifying the flag pole mount/location for a rod holder/grill mount. I meant to measure the flag pole mount because it looks pretty darn big and sturdy that it would seem that even without enlarging it that some kind of short extension piece would provide plenty of support for a grill mount. I'll have to peak up it in the "trunk" to see how its mounted.

FYI- I got a new 19 inch Samsung TV for the main cabin. Much bigger screen, better picture BUT its no larger of a TV then the original 15 inch. It just doesn't have all that wasted space in the frame. Mounts with the same swivel bracket.

The outlet for the TV is right behind the panel that the antenna gain control is on. Took me 30 minutes tops to swap it out. Original one is going in the aft. If you have that option, please post a pic of how its mounted. Thanks!!

I don't have the mid cabin TV option...Probly just as well because the the only use for our mid cabin is storing stuff and our luggage.
I am interested in the Samsung TV you got though...Do you have a model # and did it fit right in the 4 screw pattern on the pole mount?
Thanks

I believe the mount is VESA compliant, which most flat panel's are these days. Harder to find one that isn't compatable than one that is.

I went with this one:

I ended up spending more than I planned to but the Vizio from Sam's club at $199 just didn't do it for me. Looked like a boring picture frame.

And, yes. It uses the same bracket and just screws right in. I want to find some kind of spacer to put on the mounting pole to keep it at its highest height though. I don't like it down low and its kind of annoying to not just be able to turn it without it sliding down.

Thanks...I'll be doing the same thing...Pretty sure the LG that came with the boat isn't going to work after June...Not that we watch TV much on the boat anyways...
I have 4 flat screens in my house 3 are Samsung 1 is LG.
I like the Samsungs

Correct. The LG does not have a built in digital tuner which is also why its been moved to the aft as the dedicated movie/PS2 monitor for the kids.
