I just got home form the hospital... got a nice ride in an ambulance at 4:00 this afternoon.

We have this go-cart that my wife's father bought before he passed away and for some reason, it lives in our garage now. My 14-year old loves the thing. It has independent suspension big tires, roll bar, seat belts, etc...

Well... this afternoon my son wants me to drive it... as we are going down the street he says "turn it as hard as you can." I did... It flipped... my left arm went under the roll bar and was the primary support for all the weight as it slid sideways down the shoulder of the road..

Things I learned today:

1. Those neck braces and backboards they tie you to before they wheel you into the ambulance are very claustrophobic...
2. One should not go 30 mph in a go cart and turn it as hard as you can
3. Go cart seat belts should be quick release and not like ones in cars because when you are halfway pinned under the side of a heavy go cart, you can't hit the little red release button to get out... so you have to wait in a lot of pain pinned down until someone comes and helps or the go cart catches fire and kills you.
4. Go carts roll over easy
5. Dislocating a shoulder that has already had rotator cuff surgery complete with pins and screws and a rod in the arm hurts really bad when being twisted off your body
6. Morphine is a good party drug
7. Even with morphine, it's still possible to cry for 4 hours.

So my left arm is now all messed up... I think you all should come wash my boat now on a weekly basis since I'm laid up.

Pain killers are good.

Really sorry to hear about your new injury, Gary. I don't think it's necessary to expound on taking driving advice from a 14 year old, so I'll refrain. Susie probably already might have mentioned something to you. Hope that you recover quickly. On the bright side, you got a visit with your friends in the ER.

I have a free weekend coming up. Leave the keys to Four Suns and I'll see that she gets washed really nicely. You know it's not good for boats to sit idle, right?

Gary-
Sorry to hear of your injuries. Nice to see that you still have your sense of humor intact. And speaking of pain killers, if morphine doesn't do it for you, ask for delaudid. Now that's the stuff.:smt101

My son is fine... he was able to get himself out of the seatbelt and go get help... and he video taped the ambulance arriving and leaving. What kind of person would take pictures of someone hurt?

Sorry to hear about your arm. Now...what's it gonna cost to get that video posted up...???:smt043:smt043

Did he post it to youtube, yet? You know he will. Send us the URL.

I actually got several shots of something last night that started with a "d"... it worked...

Sorry to hear about the accident...perhaps there's a physics lesson here for your son. Could there have been a difference in center of gravity with you driving? Hope you get to feeling better soon. Boating season is upon us....

Did you just call me a fat ass?

Gary, sorry to hear about another injury. Hoping for a speedy recovery.

Gary....Hope things get better for you but I do have to admit it's pretty funny that you let a 14 yo tell you what to do.
All kidding aside after having two shoulder surgeries myself, I can only imagine how you're feeling so I hope the healing process goes well or you have lots of drugs

Gary,

Sorry to hear about the arm. Best of luck with the recovery!

There could be a bright side to this--one of your kids could become the designated helmsman for the summer. When I was a teen, my father tore up his shoulder in an accident. The show had to go on, so I learned a lot quickly when I got promoted to full-time designated driver. Just make sure you pick the responsible one :)

Sounds like you had a NASCAR event....like the big one Talladega style.

I don't know about you, but pain killers constipate the hell out of me...so good luck with that! May you mend quickly so you can hold your son with your right arm and beat him with the left....just kidding, I'll bet he is really ridden with guilt...but then there is the video, forget the guilt.

Gary

Sorry to hear about the accident. Sounds like it was pretty bad and it sounds painful. I'm glad your son didn’t get hurt. I can't speak to the busted up shoulder, but I can relate to road rash, it can be very painful. I had a bad motorcycle accident 20 years with a lot of road rash (car hit me on the highway at 70 mph and I slid for about 1/8 of a mile) The bandages dried and stuck to my legs and arms. I soaked in a tub for 3 hours trying to get them off. I nearly passed out from the pain. The scars take a long time to go away and you really need to be careful with the sun.

Use a lot of Neosporin or what ever the doctor recommends. I'm sure sleeping will be a challenge.

Good luck with your recovery.

I think some pictures are in order...
