Remote Trim Switch

Thanks for the photos. One last question... does the transom switch control 100% of the tilt, including the upper trailering limit? I assume yes, but want to make sure.

Esteban

I've got the same switch on my 210BR and YES, it does control from the down position all the up to the trailer position. One word of caution, since the switch is so easy to get to, I always put the outdrive down when the boat is sitting at home, twice I forgot to raise it, didn't even get out of the drive way I knew something was amiss.

Very, very handy mod.

Here are some pics.

On the pump the switch goes between the existing connection.

I posted them backwards, but oh well.

Hey Charlie L.... Could you post the part # for the switch you have? I think it looks a little different than the one firecadet613 has a link for. Thanks!

P.S. This is my first post! Just bought a new 06' 195 sport 5.0 Carb. Sold my 96' 175 3.0.

The connector seems different. One is barrel type and has 3 flat blades. The other is like a flat oval with 3 cylinders.

I ordered mine from eBay. If I get the wrong connector, can I just splice cables?

Esteban

BoaterBen, that is the exact switch I received and linked to from boatfix.com $43 plus shipping.

Took about 30 minutes and I had my fiance helping out hold a plastic bag on the inside of the boat while I drilled. I drilled through fiberglass and gelcoat only, no wood at all. I know my boat has some wood bracing in the transom somewhere....

Sealed it up with 4200 real well even though it has a gasket, and through bolted with stainless steel bolts, washers, lock washer, and nylon lock nuts. Its going to be there for a good long time.....best mod I've done!

Now if I can just install my keelguard and recarpet my bunks!

Thanks firecadet613, Found that Mercury has two versions of this part. The newer part (87-815200A02) has a flat 3 pin Packard connectors at the pump. The older part (87-815200A 1) has round 3 blade connectors at the pump.

Sorry, I've been at Lake Marion for the weekend. I see you found what you were looking for though.

Good luck with the mod.

I have a small garage and have to lower the drive to get the boat in the last 3 inches. This is the best thing yet.

This is a very easy install. I spent about an hour thinking about where to put it, could I reach the pump wires, how to catch the fiberglass in the boat. It then took 5 mintues to finish the project.

The switch has a large over hang between the hole and the edge of the switch. You can't make a mistake. I should have opened the box, got the drill and be done with it.

I ordered the switch from a local Merc dealer. $47 including tax.

I want to add the Merc part numbers for the remote/transom tilt switch:

87-815200a02 - For newer style with 3 pin Packard connector (2003 and newer).

87-815200A1 - For older style with 3 blade connector.

Do you know what the SR part # is? Is it the same part as Boatfix.com?

This mod sounds great.

A little late for an old topic however, I installed a remote trim switch last week following the instructions and notes from the forum. I should have done this years ago!! What a option when you can trim for service work without going to the trouble of climbing back in and out of the boat to raise and lower the leg. In the Ottawa area the switch was 95$C and 52$US in Alex Bay NY. A three hour round trip through the borders, plenty of smiles and pleasant people, lunch on the way; a great afternoon tour.

Ok for some reason all i see is a bunch of ******* than a dot com.. cam someone please pm me the exact link so i can order mine like right now.. LMAO!!..
c r0ck

I picked up mine at a local Merc dealer. After shipping it was about the same price as an online store and I would prefer to support the local guy. It was about $48 - worth every penny.

I still can not find this anywere even b o a t fix .com. I think I am going to pull my hair out. Our local dealer went away last year so no one to go to in person (IRS needed something) not a Sea Ray dealer just merc.

Finally found, its on its way. I searched for only "Transom" and it was in the list, cant wait to install.

Have any 240SD done the upgrade yet? Did you have remove the engine cowling?

I plan to once I figure out what part number. I would imagin you would have to remove the engine cowling if your gonna thru bolt it (but does it need to be thru bolted. Factory placement is on the port side but I might put mine on the starboard side.
