Haven't they said the last couple of model years that they were going to "phase" out the 280DA? Just went to the Detroit Show and they were still selling them. Sounds like SR is following the Big 3, get rid of something that works...

Hey gang, new here and excited to hear all the feedback from you guys!!! I am employed at SeaRay Headquarters in Knoxville. If I can help out in anyway please feel free to post, If I don't know, surely can find out for you :smt038.

Welcome! Hopfully you can also help us guys with the old "classics!"

I think it is great that SR would take an interest in us on this site. Might make Jim a little nervous.:smt009

Just sent you a PM.

Welcome to the forum. I, for one, appreciate your offer to assist.

I just sent you a PM to ask about the AXIUS implementation. Searay seems to be struggling to get mine working. It has only been 9 months since I took delivery ???

I look forward to your response.

Are you the Sea Ray police or something? WTF man? Way to drive someone off the site!
Doug

Hi Doug,

I may have not posted with the utmost sensitivity however I am familiar with Brunswick employee policy due to my day job. I simply gave the OP advice that was genuine.

Welcome aboard. I think it is fantastic that you have joined in and are willing to share your knowledge. I think its great that we can have someone here that can join in the discussion about making our boats work better.

Chelepop.
Can you find the mold for the arch on a 1999-'04 260DA and make me one?

Hey again!!

Just let me confirm, that I'm not a double agent (triple agent tsk tsk!!)

My motive............ SIMPLY, I have knowledge of your property that I PROBABLY built myself, my own skills, my own blood, sweat (lots of it) and tears. So I just joined because I Love my company, love the brand, love what I do for a living and to see the finally results (at the lakes and marinas) is just very fulfilling to know that "I BUILT IT" and someone else loves my work. Thats it! If you have a creak or a bang, maybe I can assist you in finding out why/what/where and how.

So to those who think I'm actually getting a pay-off from joining your right. I'M SELFISHLY trying to help you out without the out of pocket expense and that..MAKES ME SELFISHLY HAPPY.

To the rest of you, thank you so very much for your warm welcomes :) I did receive many PM's and answered most this morning. If you would rather ask me a question without the ridicule from the rest please be my guest at the PM'S.

Thanks for reading!

Great. Glad your a not a spy and more of an ambassador. (you know if more people thought and acted like you we might have more jobs here in the US)

Maybe you can answer this question for me. When the factory drills a hole in a non-cored hull to install a transducer or sea cock, does the factory simply apply a sealant such as 5200 or are additional steps performed to protect water from getting the hull? If so, what else is done?

Chelepop,

Can you give us an update on the Knoxville Plant? Nothing confidential, of course. When I was there a few years ago, they were making boats up to 34' I think, and the smaller boats were made in Vonore. Since a plant (Merritt Island) in FL closed, I heard some of that production was going to be moved to Knoxville. Did all that really happen?

Doesn't make me nervous at all. You would not believe the people from Sea Ray that have come out of the wood work to let me know they read this site. I think its great that an employee wants to answer questions and participate. He obviously loves his job, this site is all about sharing our Sea Ray experiences and I would imagine its very rewarding for him to chat it up with people actually enjoying something he built.

Here's the dirt. We were making boats up to 34 then the new 310/330/350 were integrated. Merritt Island did close and we received two of their boats 38/40 and a few of their employees. Needless to say after expanding our building and buying new hoists and expanding our test tank pools indoors to provide for the new boats, we are sending them back in two weeks to Palm Coast Fl since our facility is known for sport crusiers and not sport yachts as Palm Coast is. We have layed off about 20 of the say....... 40 ppl that came with those boats. The ppl left will stay at our facility since River View is shutting down we will be getting most of their boats also for a total of 18 diff models at knoxville. Vonore/Tellico is still up and running the smaller runabouts. We also are receiving US Marines bayliners and maxums.

But of course you have done your homework and all of this is public knowledge. Hope this helps :)

A Marine Max sales guy told me at a small local boat show last weekend that Maxum was going to be dropped completely from Brunswick's line. Was that wrong information?

Great... if they've read my stuff, I'll never get another factory tour...

Well, I beleive that is the case, since they have been shipping already 'built' models into our facility as a reference..... MM is our biggest buyer, but (and they might) I doubt they know more then we do since we do build the boats.

Hope this helps

Gary's just going to have to go "underground." Pick a pseudonym like Sam Clemens or Rogers Nelson and tell everyone you have a 34' 1986 SR sportfish.
