Please Help! Looking into purchasing our first Sea Ray

I was at the Florida State Fair today and MarineMaxx had some smaller boats there.

The 2009 230 Sundeck is something you might want to look at. Not as big as my 240 but the layout of the engine/bildge area and storage areas were really nice. I wish the back of my 240 was like the 230

Can someone explain the differences between the Sea Ray 210 Select, and the Four Winns 210H?

The manufacturers. Sea Ray's quality has not dropped under Brunswick. It's still one of the better production express cruisers on the market. All Boat Mfg's are falling on hard times.

Hopes:

For price comparisons, call a few other Sea Ray dealers in the northwest. Tell them what you are looking for and ask what they will do wish cash in hand. Then you can use that as a bargaining chip with LUSR. Quotes are free! I'm sure they would all love to sell a boat in this economy.

One other suggestion would be to look for a 3 - 5 year old boat that will be half the cost. If it works out and you like it, you can move up to a new boat. If you decide boating isn't for you, you won't lose your shorts when you sell it. Well, you might but it won't have as much at risk as you would with a new boat. As mentioned previously in the thread, spring is coming a WHOLE LOT of boats will be untarped, cleaned up and ready to be sold.

I've always bought used because I live on the "right" side of the state! :) We dont' make near as much as the folks on the "left"! As for quality, I don't think you can go wrong with any year as long as it's a Sea Ray!

In fact, I know a gentlemen over here trying to sell one. It's in great shape for around $12,000 or so with the trailer. I'll inquire to see what year, engine etc. He's taking a bath on it to pay for some college costs for his daughters.

Sundancer,
I think that LUSR is the only dealer on the west side. They have other locations (4) but they are all interconnected. I haven't found a Sea Ray Dealer that isn't connected to LUSR

We took a NEW 2007 210 Select out for a sea trial yesterday, it rode very VERY nicely and has some great specs (I posted them in the 210 Select thread). But we aren't thrilled about the color.

What color did they have?

It was just plain. It was all the pearl color with a black pinstripe on the outside of the boat. then the inside was cream with black piping (which we don't mind at all) but the accent pieces of the vinyl were almost gold/bronze looking. It wasn't all that bad because those pieces were just on the driver and passenger seats and up on the bow. Some were on the sides of the boat if I remember correctly. Just not what we had hoped for. :smt089

Did they offer to find a different one and did the sales team relax a little?

Just checked the parts manual for the 2007 210 Select and the accent vinyl is either Bronze Mist, or Cinnabar Pearl.

No, they didn't offer to find us another one. I'm assuming because it was a 2007 model. It sure would have been nice if they had offered that. They had another 2007 210 Select, and it was black. But it didn't have all the features we really like on the one we did the testdrive on. Like the Bravo 3, and the bow filler cushions, battery charger etc.

I have the cinibar color on my boat and I can tell you the next boat I buy will be all white for the hull, it may look plain but it will be a whole lot easier to care for and hide the little blemishes.

The dealer pointed that out. That we wouldn't see the bumper burns as easily with the all pearl color. If you have the cinnabar pearl, then I guess the accent vinyl on the interior of the boat is bronze mist :smt009

Yea I guess that's what they call it never really paid much attention to the color but will defintly be an all white boat next go around.

Don't get me wrong I love the color (it matches teh truck) but dang if not every nick, rub, scrape, etc doesn't scream out and say LOOK AT ME!

30% seems like a pretty good deal except it's Black. I sure it looks sharp but it will show everything. The battery Charger, Transom Trim Switch, and bow filler cushions are things I'll be adding to my boat.

Morpheus, this is the one we did the sea trial on, and it wasn't black. It was pearl with a black stripe. Just like pin stripping. Not sure why they even mention the black unless they are referring to that and the black piping on the inside of the boat.

So you think the 34K is a good deal? If we go this way it will be a cash offer...do you think there is any room to negotiate with that price? They HAVE been sitting on it for 2 years now.

Ahh ok. Well I'm not the guru on boat buying I'm only on my first but there are plenty of threads about the negotiation process. Frank is the master.

There is probably always room to negotiate. If they are giving you 34k without even batting an eye then go lower. How many hours does the boat have on it? I know you say it's new but if it's been there for 2 years they maybe have put some hours on it from people "looking" at it.

Also not sure how the 1hr manufacture warranty works on a 2 year old new boat. Then mention anything about freebies like sirius radio, life jackets, etc. Do they have a Marine store there maybe get some credit there, our sales guy gave us $100 gift card.

I'm sure others will chime in on the price and negotiation process, but as I said if they offered you the 34k without negotiating at all then there is probably room fore them to come down even more.

If your not happy with the boat or color though don't buy it thre are plenty of boats to choose from.

I think it sounds like a really nice boat. That's a pretty decent price too. Go Read Frank's thread on "how to buy a boat". It will give you good perspective and is full of good advice.

Again best of luck

does anyone have a link to Frank's "how to buy a boat" post? I cannot seem to find it.

Thanks again for everyone's help. It sure has made this whole process easier.

*edited so not to offend Frank, since his name isn't Fred!*
