$46-Kicker 10" Marine Subwoofer in Sealed Enclosure

I was planning on using a Boss CX1800 amp. http://www.bossaudio.com/main/847 I liked the 5 channels and the power for about $150 or 15 boat dollars. Now I am re-thinking this idea because I wonder if this will draw too much power. Tech support said that the amp could draw 75 amps when running and I should use a 100 amp breaker with 4 gauge wire. Even with 2 batteries I'm afraid that the amp would drain the battery too quick. What do you think?

seems like alot, was that maybe 75amp as full power maybe?

does anyone have an opinion (dumb question) on how they feel about putting the sub underneath the rear walkthrough above the batteries. Seems like wasted space. It would be right there by the batteries for power.

sorry I don't have a picture of this area to show you.

I'm assuming you have the sun pad that goes all the way across? I have the step, there's not much room there. I wouldn't think it would be a problem, just keep your RCA's away from any power.

Okay, found this picture on the SeaRay site. I have a jump seat where the lady is sitting in the picture and there is the fiberglass step over that the lady's elbow is resting on. There is about 2 feet of space above the batteries. there is starboard on one side and carpeted plywood on the other side that I could attached the subwoofer to.

I have decided to go with the Infinity Basslink 200 watt Subwoofer with the ampilfier built in.

You know, thats my exact set up! I never thought about even looking up there. It's probably be a great spot. I currently have a small box with two 10's under the sunpad. It sounds really good. I'd imagine this location would be great because it's out of the way and you should still be able to get the sound in the hull. Which is great by the way!

It's back, just ordered on only, $21 plus tax and shipping, ground shipping is about $4, so not worth buying something else to get free shipping, unless you really need something else.

I checked after I ordered mine and it still shows available. Get it while it's hot!

So, it's been two months (plus) and I still haven't received it (Cheap, single channel amp). I put in a complaint a month ago. They made me go to the post office to try to track it, even though I paid to have it delivered to my home (standard). Now, after another series of phone calls, they are going to refund my twenty something bucks. What a waste! Maybe I'll still get it. The post office said that the pallet was still in route. They said that on triple-outsourced shippings, it's not unusual to come in over a month late.

Now, my daughter still doesn't have a sub or an amp.

Morph, how did the amp do?

Sub and Amp are here. Just havn't had time to go get the power, ground, remote, rca cables and go to the boat to install it all. Also havn't decided how the heck I'm going to run the power and ground from the batteries to the storage in the helm.

Guys,

I'm jumping ship, at least partially. I bought two of these for $125 each plus shipping (pre-owned, sealed in the boxes). http://www.al-eds.com/JL-Audio-M10IB5SGWH-p18777.html

One will go inside the port side step in the cockpit behind the fridge, facing starboard. The other, if required, will go under the helm seating facing port.

I love my Kickers in the enclosures, but I can't sacrifice all of that room, so I've got them in the ER facing up, and the sound is (obviously) muffled and causes some vibration outside the boat. My buddy has these in his 420, and the sound is in - freaking - credible. Wish me luck.

John,

You will not be disappointed with JL Audio that is for sure. Jim sells them too but looks like you got a really good deal on a used set. I think you will be able to tell a huge difference.

Thanks Wesley, but they're not used. Sealed in the boxes new. He was going to start a huge project on his boat but decided not to. Either way, we'll see how they do.

I forgot about these. Anyone still looking for one? I ended up with three of these when they went on sale. One is in the boat, one I sold to Hampton, and I was going to put the other in my pickup, but never did. So, If you need one....new in the box....$46 plus shipping, let me know.

I never used the one you sold me (thank you for that, by the way). I may put it in my truck (for 2 - I love 'em). It was supposed to go into my daughter's car, but Circuit City screwed up the delivery on the amp that was on sale - never got it, then she stayed at school this past Summer so I wasn't motivated to do anything about it. Now, I may have a couple of extras if I pull them out of the boat. I'll keep putting them in cars. I have a 1985 RX-7 that could use one. I could take the passenger seat out! : )

Here it is. The shape of the hole, which took a few hours, reflects that the top and the bottom of the speaker are recessed into the step while the sides overlap the surrounding gel coat. The reason is that I am trying to recess a round object into an assymetrical cylinder. I didn't want any part of the speaker's outline to be recessed deeper than the surface, but I didn't want it to stick out too far, and I felt I needed to have a solid surface for part of it to be screwed into. It is sealed in with 3M 5200!

Oh yeah, the sound is quite deep and powerfull with the Eclipse X-1000 driving it and one Kicker in the engine room. I put sound insulating tape between the two, thin access panel to the gunwales inside the cockpit to stop the rattling noises.
