Official Cummins 6cta 450C thread

Anyone mind sharing their setup for pressure testing the after coolers? Pulled mine this weekend and they look to be in great shape but want to pressure test after reassembling.

I had this setup from testing pool pipes.

Just finished up my second round of servicing the aftercoolers since owning the boat and I must say they came apart much easier than last time. Thoroughly greasing them up makes a world of difference. Last time I had to take a mallet and a block of wood to get them apart. This time I just pressed down on the housing and the core popped right out. Also the powder coating on the housing held up extremely well. Looks just as good as the day I had them done. Core looked great as well with much less carbon buildup vs last service. Pressure tested and have them back together ready to go back in this weekend.

The one thing I did differently this time is to flip the core over to alternate which end sits in the water after shut down. Not sure if it matters but figured it would only prolong the life since I don't flush.

How many years and how many hours since your last service? I hear they should be done every 3 to 4 years to avoid any problems disassembling.
3 years and about 300 hours.

I have a 2004 420 Sundancer with 6CTAs. Did an end of season oil change and sent samples for analysis as usual. Starboard engine had high fuel in oil, 5%. Previous years it was always .5%. Port engine was at 1%, previously always at .5% also. Boat is now in storage for the winter. Anyone had an issue like this before?

Deleted. I made a stupid comment. See what drinking at the boat show and responding to csr does

Anyone replace their airsep with seaboards new design and willing to part with the original housing? Mine has a leak and I’m looking to just replace housing.

Good discussion, my previous owner's mechanic clipped the whole Sea Ray monitor system. I have audible horns for oil press and temp and that is it. Had been contemplating Maretron.

Hi All,

Question, pulled zincs and after adding fresh water rinse last year my starboard zincs could almost go another year. My port zincs in the after cooler were thrashed, but the coolant heat exchanger was in great shape. Any thoughts on the big difference? I am thinking maybe a bonding issue on the port aftercooler.

TIA!

Kevin

Maretron is great to replace a portion of the system monitor for things like bilge pumps with a RIM100 and a DSM410 display. But the Actisense EMU-1 will also emit engine based alarms which can be used as part of the system monitor and also be displayed on most MFD's. So the Maretron DSM410 can totally replace the old system monitor, even if it is missing.

@SKybolt will Actisense work for mechanical engines? Mine are 450s, not 480CEs.
