This state/country is messed up

As an employer, here is what I see. These internet services, indeed, zip recruiter, etc., suck. It is very easy to apply, and my understanding is the bigger companies use algorithms to screen applicants. So you need to figure out a way around those. If she is disclosing her salary, a lot of employers will scratch her if their jobs don't pay as much.

People who go around the indeed always get an interview from me. The ones that drop off their resume, fill out an app, make a phone call, or even an email. While some people say it shows they can't follow the rules, to me it shows initiative and a willingness to work. There is absolutely nothing worse than setting up an interview with someone, and their question is "what job is this now?"
I had an indeed applicant apply and I skipped over him….. today his resume was in our mailbox down by the road. I had hr call him right away

I have been using a headhunter company to find us applicants and they are really good at what they do. Surprisingly good. I would suggest that she at least give one a shot and see if they can help her find something.
We use one as well, some are good, some are not so good.

I have a friend who works for a company that uses AI algorithms in an initial video "interview". She has a friend qualified for a position but the AI looks at the eye contact and visuals and she can't get past the AI so she cannot move to a face to face interview. Her boss had a great candidate also qualified for a position that couldn't meet the AI standards. He tried to pull strings but HR wouldn't budge... That stuff sucks.
Ridiculous

My HR is now requiring me to "take notes" and write down answers to questions so they have it for "their file"; my questions the ones we wrote for our interviews. So we will be so focused on writing down answers and less focused on listening and asking good follow up questions.

I am a HIRE or NO HIRE interviewer: https://www.joelonsoftware.com/2006/10/25/the-guerrilla-guide-to-interviewing-version-30/

  1. Are you smart?
  2. Can you get work done?
  3. Are you a fit for my team?
I just went thru 4 rounds of interviews for 3 finals candidates, and said "NO HIRE" for all of them after the last interview. It sucks, because I have to keep looking and doing interviews, but it's easier to hire the right person versus fire the wrong.

Good for you if you can do it in the interview process. Recently hired a kid (22) sort of a great cnc operator but couldn’t put a part in a box. I said to him did you see the pics in the work instructions he said yes …why what’s wrong ?…. I grabbed the WI and brought it up to the box…. Said do you see the difference…. He said no

HIRE or NO HIRE is not easy to do. In my field I think it's probably (I don't know though) easier to do than in a manual/blue collar kind of role though. I ask a lot of behavioral questions (tell me about a time when...) and let my leads ask the technical questions.

I'd never get hired if someone asked me these questions;)

Sounds like she needs to sell one or two of the rentals to free up some capital and get rid of some debt then take a decent paying interim position until her dream job pops up. Rugged individualism and sacrifice is what got her to where she is, she just needs to pivot and persevere. You raised her right.

I had a company reach out to me, and during the interview the guy asked me what had me interesting in their company. I don’t think laughing was the right answer.

I swear, companies are assholes. What do i expect? I will give you a fair days work for a fair days pay. I am not looking to marry you. Or enhance stock holders value. Or work 60 hours a week for a negotiated 40 hour a week pay. YOU hear that Elon?

I see 3 months severance in your future :)

I interviewed a guy the other day, asked him at the end why he was interested in our company, he literally said a paycheck. Then he went on to say I don't even remember what your company does, I'm interviewing with 10 companies right now first one to make an offer is where I go. He also said he wants to buy a boat, do the inner loop, work remote and, and work by himself and be left alone.

At that point in the interview he was a no hire for me anyway but still couldn't believe he was this candid..

Just going to put out the maybe obvious. If your are asking a certain salary and applying to 500 jobs with no luck, you need to lower that expectation. That employment bubble is slowing reaching burst. Employers are getting done with paying stupid wages just because. My advise would be to land a role soon before it bursts or you will be amongst many out of work fighting for the same jobs driving salaries even lower. Just my $0.02

Yeah she has reduced her salary 'requirement' by about 40-50% already.

So she is looking in the 65k range and still not getting any interviews? How many interviews is she getting after submitting to 500 jobs?
Something doesn’t add up here

She was making about $130,000 at her last full-time job. She is now targeting $90,000. These are jobs that are paying (according to surveys) in the $150,000-175,000 range. Not sure how many interviews she has had so far though. And I'm not even sure of the job titles. Stuff over my head that I have never heard of. She had done insurance sales then financial planner. Her lost role was something to do with improving efficiency and increasing revenue.
