New Tender -- I Am Hooked

Lol I love you guys posts. Dinghy life is the best and I spend a ton of money on this as it is my transportation around hundreds of miles of canals here in Ft Lauderdale. Boat may get 100 hours a year, dinghy gets 500…. I even installed a security cam to keep an eye on her sitting on her lift.

What did you end up getting? Doesn't look like a Highfield under that cloak of darkness....

No it is my old Novurania that I refurbed last year. The Highfield was the plan when i was looking at getting the Sea Lift installed but scrapped that program with our great president as spending $50k was not in the cards going into the unknown. The Novi is too big to put on the swim step even with a Sea Lift as it is over 15 foot. We just use it to cruise around and picked up that lift off Craigs List last year for $500 so now she hangs out of the water with a new tube and new motor. May circle back to the Highfield and Sea Lift program at some point who knows.

There should be a class-action lawsuit against the EPA for causing hernias, like the Camp Lejune ads.
My 2.6 is just under 50#. My former 2hp 2-stroke Mariner was 17#.
I have yet to try to get it on/off my zodiac from my swim platform, but I fear it will not go well.
Still searching FB Marketplace every week for a used 2-stroke. Rare as hens teeth. Nobody giving them up.
I have one of the later Yam 6hp 2 strokes (100:1) with stupid low hours that I will putting up for sale soon. No idea what shipping would be but maybe the exchange rate would cover it?

Boy, I hear that; My dividends have crashed which will curb much of my discretionary spending except for those hard but cheap projects.

The tugs are still running, holding the big boat up against the pier. As soon as the guy in front of me hits the wake of the first tug, he immediately shoots about 10 feet sideways to the left o_O Uh oh, what's gonna happen to the 9 foot boat?

Over the last few weeks, top speed in the tender has dropped from 14 mph down to 9 mph

So it's time for a haul and cleaning. Afterwards -- right back to 14 mph

Yesterday I'm coming back to the slip, and up ahead I see a couple objects right in the middle of the channel (no radar obviously).

When I get closer I realize it's two people.

At first I think they are possibly overboard so I pull up alongside in neutral.

Turns out it's a couple of older ladies, who swam over from the beach. They are right in the middle of the channel. It's 10 am and they are loaded.

One of them yells out: YA GOT ANY BEE-UH? (that's beer to you non locals)

As if I have a liquor cabinet on a 9 foot boat

NO, SORRY I yell out

Then she yells back: THAT'S A CUTE LITTLE BOAT, GREAT FOR A PARTY OF ONE. PUT IT RIGHT IN YA MAN CAVE !!!

Then they went right back to swimming. In the channel. Right across from the beach

Yikes.

I had a tender race after the sun went down yesterday. It started out innocent enough. I was just checking to see if my new fuel line fixed my engine stalling issue. dock neoghbor thought I was gone for too long, so he came to check on me. Next thing you know, we’re racing to the bridge and back.

I may sell the big boat at some point, but I can’t imagine not ever having a dinghy now.

I had no idea a dirt bottom would affect performance that much

Me too. And that is one month of growth

I'm also the first slip closest to the shore -- where it's 5 feet deep at low tide -- and an inlet so we don't get a ton of movement so maybe that makes it worse.

I am definitely getting some kind of power scrubber!

My wife likes to eye the dinghies with a console, so can you guys give me any tips on those. I currently have a 10’ Bris (brig knockoff). It’s PVC and I want to sell it before it has another leak.

We don’t get a lot of used examples around here and I can’t find anyone local that stocks this style of boat. If I run across one how safe is it to get a hypalon model that is 10 yrs old?

If I were buying new, what’s a good model in the 11’ range? It’s just me and her usually as my teenage son is embarrassed to be seen on one.

I've got a Walker Bay 325 STX (console). Love it...10'8" and one of the smallest consoles you can get with 5 passenger capacity...

10 years old is nearing its end of life. I would get new.

Your son is not embarrassed to be seen on one. He is embarrassed to be seen on one with MOM & DAD!

A good one? Lots of opinions. I prefer Zodiac.
Just something about owning the original and my last one lasted 12 years of sever abuse. Just be sure to submit the warranty paperwork.
