420/44 DB Owners Club

I noticed on my 2004 420 DB a slight wining noise when in gear, this is starboard side only.
Could this be the Cutless bearing? Has anyone experienced that and replaced the cutless bearings?

I've experienced cutlass bearing waring down on one side, but there was no wining noise. I recommend you have closer look to make sure it's not coming from trainy.

In any event, if your cutlass bearings are original, don't push your luck, replace them, they're overdue.

Thanks for the part #
I was looking for the canister with no luck, when I changed search to sight glass I located it at Defenders a local marine store. The sight glasses are in stock so I’m going to change both today.

I got mine from defender as well.

Item Number: 503585SGL2003

Has anyone ever used someplace like SignSpecialist to replace the "44 Sedan Bridge" on the side of the flybridge?

I just applied the new name vinyl and now the 44 Sedan Bridge looks a little faded. I might also replace the 44 at the stern. I think is has peeled a little.

I did some searches but could not find anything. I thought I read about it on here...

The font and color are important and I think there is some slant to the letters.

Cheers!

Try here! I replaced all on my 420DA and they were a perfect match!

Is this via a smart shunt?
Yes, Victron 712 for 1 bank plus voltage level on second bank.
Installed it myself. The only challenge was installing the lugs on the minus cable with awg 000. I lucked out as my local battery shop in Norwalk, CT lend me their huge crimping tool for a couple of hours.

That’s my hold up on this project. Need a good hydraulic crimper to do the job.

Our local chandlery has the parts and can do the crimp ... made it easy to just tell them the length. Maybe yours can as well.

I added my shunt as part of the solar work and mounted it on a board behind the electrical disconnect box (under the stairs and just in front of the waste tank), which is near the ground bar. The ground to the bus bar had sufficient length to one end of the shunt and it was just the shunt to the bus bar that had to be made up. The Victron app is great but I still wanted the ability to have a quick look at a display, which is mounted in the electrical panel.

I have clear Poly throughout. Best thing I ever did. Thought about tinted but a few people I know had it done and while daytime is great, it's especially dark at night. I guess it's up to the type of boating you do. Poly filters UV and definitely keeps the interior cooler, relatively speaking. I kept the smiley cut outs in mine and they are a bit bigger than OEM. As they cannot be rolled up my, canvas guy devise a pretty simple way of opening and attaching to under side of radar arch using stud fasteners. They zip open and closed easily. Just need to baby them and use caution when washing. You should be able to view in this picture.

As an aside, I love the way NorCalRobert had his done with separate panels on lower bridge - aft. Makes it easy to remove top panels for storage as well as use during summer months. Had I seen this previously I would have definitely had it done that way. Great piece of reengineering.

I just jump from the terminals from just one of the thruster batteries. That gives 12V.

was crawling in my bilge yesterday and stumbled across this .. Not sure if it’s aftermarket or factory?

Has anyone replaced interior G4 bulbs with LEDs? If so what wattage did you use? Color? (E. G. Warm wht vs. wht ) Thanks.

06/25/2022 update.

In case anyone is interested, all interior OEM lights are G4 bi-pin 10 watt 12 volt xenon.

Replacement: G4 LED 1.1 - 2 watt equivalent to a 10 watt xenon. Draw is only 110 mA at 12 volt dc. Very big difference.
I have a question on the bow thruster batteries being hot. I searched for an answer and could not find anything about it.

I was doing a little re-arranging in the ER and felt a lot of heat coming off of the thruster batteries. I was scratching my head and my wife said: "Is the switch on the helm on?". Well, I ran up there and heard the relays click off when I turned off the rocker.

It seemed like the batteries were cooling off when I checked them 1/2 an hour later. Did I screw up by leaving the rocker on...it has been engaged for 3 weeks. Yikes!!

There is a separate controller for the 24 Volt bow thruster but it seems most controllers or chargers auto sense for charging but does this bow thruster controller do something else that would cause the batteries to get hot?

Thanks!!

Went to use mine today and it didn’t operate.. Green light flashed and beeping sound heard but no thruster.. Going to start the trouble shooting process tomorrow.

My master toilet vacuum failed yesterday so I tapped this thing and it came good. Anyone know what it is? Thx

I think that is the vacuum switch. It tell the pump that is has pumped the system down enough. Maybe it just got stuck from not using it or there was some corrosion.

Glad it is working now!

Mine was working like a champ until last Tuesday. We used it at the pump out station but got nothing when we were rafting up with friends. I ducked in the ER and one of the thruster batteries had 13.13 Volts and the other had 0.75. So I took it in for a warranty replacement. Looks like early failure.

I'll get it in and post about a few other projects later!

Following with interest - I’m thinking dodgy battery or charger.

Working now but I have a feeling it’s trying to tell me something so I’m going to replace it. Thanks for identifying it for me
