I am aware of the costs of ac units. I just replaced mine myself. However, I am curious if anyone else has had a professional replace theirs and and most importantly, what was the cost of the labor?

I would assume he labor would vary widely from boat to boat. My boat has 2 ACs. One is easy to access and the other one a PITA.

And location, time of year, number of other boaters calling with a problem. Huge variation.

I just had a 7,000 btu Unit installed under my salon sofa Last week.
1,199.00 AC unit
200.00 shipping
90.00/hr labor x6 hrs 540.00
72.00 tax
2012.00 total

Thank you. Just the kind of info I was looking for.

Nauti 97: Was your replacement unit the same model as the one you took out? Curious because 6 hours seems like alot from my experience which is why I am asking. Where did you get the new unit? Thanks

Replaced the 12K BTU Cruisair Stowaway in the bow stateroom with a 12k BTU Dometic DTG, $600 labor. I think their rate on that was $120/hour, 5 hours.

I think it took me about 4 hours to replace my Cruiseair 12K with a Marinaire 9K, but I only replaced the unit, control box and thermostat. I was able to re-use the original water pump and water lines. The majority of the time was running the wiring to the replacement thermostat. And I had to make a copper waterline elbow so a trip to the hardware store and a quick solder job, but that did not take much time at all. Everything I do on a boat takes longer than I think it will.

It was a different model.
I thought $540 labor was pretty good I wasn’t arguing with it. If you have ever done any kind of work on your boat then you know everything takes a lot longer than you would think. $2000 for new unit installed was a great price.

I am getting ready to replace a 7000 btu very soon which is why I am asking. After ready some of the replies I guess you did all right on the labor. Thanks and good luck

Thanks. I have what I need. I have installed several. I have never charged anyone. That’s why I was looking for cost.
