Mercury SmartCraft question

Hey everyone. I have a 2003 SunDeck 270 with a 6.2L and Bravo3. I always leave the SmartCraft set to depth, however it always seems to toggle between depth and trim every 15-30 seconds, even when I’m not adjusting the trim. Is this normal?

I recently replaced the trim sending unit and am having the same experience. Sometimes it happens so frequently that the SC gauge is practically unusable. I suspect that it shouldn't be doing this and that I have an electrical connection problem somewhere.

I did find a workaround, which is to go into the SC setup and disable the "Trim Popup?" setting.

On my SC gauge (tach):

1. Mode and + until the calibration setup appears
2. Mode until CAL 1 appears
3. Mode until Trim Popup? option appeared
4. I selected No and Save

That’s not normal.
With the pop up enabled, it should show trim for 2-3 seconds whenever you trim up or down.

I suspect one or both of the trim pucks or wiring has degraded and needs cleaning or replacement.

For the time being, as mentioned above, just disable the pop up setting.
