Top Gun

Only in fun though guys. Boat launching tomorrow. Just finished buff and wax below the rub rail. Looks pretty good. My angle polisher gets heavier every winter. I will feel it tomorrow I think. Smiles everyone.

Pics tomorrow or it didn't happen!

You had all winter to wait for parts

Knew a problem was starting when in Key West in December, but local fix-o-mat wasn't open when I got home. Had to wait until spring.

Parts have been backordered a while.:(:(

So let’s be honest. I would gladly fly a TomCat off of a really big boat vs. hanging on a 30 something Searay.
And Tom has done well, all be it he is different , but if we were all the same the world would be boring.
Knot saying, just saying…

Launched this morning. I don’t have time to clean the topside this week so it will have to wait. It looks like crap from the rub rail up. Pretty below that.

Went to see the original when I was in college. It was a rush especially since I grew up in Bethpage where the Grumman plant was that engineered and manufactured most of the F14s. Occasionally they would bring one in for the Corp meetings and show off and roar. Watching them in the movie gave you chills.

Knew a lot of people who worked there growing up. When the F14 was killed off it was pretty much the demise for Grumman. Still for it's time it was a great plane.

Grumman sure had their act together back in the day, not just with the Tomcat, but they also were the prime on the Luner Lander in the Apollo program. Obviously, they made the moon landings possible, but on Apollo 13 they also figured out how to use the LEM to keep them all alive until they could get back into earth orbit. Grumman got absorbed into Northrup in the mid 90's I think?

I have a friend who flew F14s. During his last 6 months in the Navy he served as a liaison to the Air Force. He got a chance to fly in an F15. He said, somewhat jokingly, that he joined the wrong service. But I know he wouldn't trade his time at Annapolis for anything. Life long dream.

The F-15 is still being actively developed, after 5 decades of service. Still undefeated in A-A combat I believe. Of course, the latest F-15EX Eagle II has better engines, avionics, weapons, etc. It'll never be stealthy, but what a weapons platform: Boeing: F-15EX
I know that Grumman had ideas/upgrades for extending the life of the F-14, but the Navy went down the F-18 path for almost everything at that time.

Read “Boyd. The fighter pilot that changed the art of war”…. He really developed the F-15.
