My last 2 boats were stored indoors all year so keeping the isinglass clean/protected was not a concern. "Back in the day" when my boats were kept outdoors I used 303 to clean and protect the isinglass. I heard they had to change the formula, and it's not as good.

What are folks using now for general, day to day isinglass cleaning/protection? I am not talking about compounds/solutions for deep cleaning, just normal cleaning.

Thanks

I use the imar cleaner just because thats what strataglass recommends and my glass is only a year old. Found its way cheaper to buy from Bezos by the gallon than the little spray bottles

Slightly off topic. I saw a product called BOATshine Isinglass Dehazer online. Has anyone tried this stuff? @Bill Collector, does the Mermaids product clean up hazy glass?

I have not experienced hazy glass, maybe because of this product ? (I'm also boathouse kept) I think hazy glass needs a little more polishing material in it, like a cleaner wax that has a little more grit in it ?

I clean off all surface dirt with water first - you don't want to scratch the eisenglass with the dirt. Then dry with a soft towel. Then I clean/polish with 210 spray cleaner protectant and wipe down with a soft cotton towel. After that I polish the remaining spray residue with a microfiber.

Is the 210 easy to work with as far as removal? I tired the 303 clear vinyl protectant and it is the devil to remove it.

I've always used Plexus. Have been docked mostly undercover during the week but out in the sun most weekends. Currently have Isinglass (vintage 2013). Still looks like new (except where my watch scratched it). I clean it before removing, stack on a bed in guest stateroom when not using, and I never roll it.

I may be wrong but I seem to remember reading 303 can damage isinglass. I think it's only for the canvas.

edit: Ignore. I was thinking in regards to overspray from the canvas protectant. Can't find anything to support that so I'm gonna say I'm wrong.

I think 303 Protectant smears on glass....

Can't go wrong with IMAR. Buy the bucket kit to start then gallon refills.

Most of it comes off on the cotton towel. There will be some residue left behind that a clean microfiber will buff clear.

"303" is a brand of products. I would not use the FabricGuard on eisenglass as that is what I think you are referring to. I have not used the eisenglass (clear vinyl) protective cleaner. But knowing the 303 brand I am sure it will not hurt it if that is what it is intended for.

I have tried the Plexus too and it seems to be almost the same as the 210 spray. It goes on and comes off the same way. I would not surprise me it they came from the same factory with slight changes to the formulations. They all seem like pledge to me ;)

This looks very interesting. How are you applying it - are you using a spray bottle ?? How easy does it come off and polish?

-Kevin

Windows have been washed with Mer-Maid boat soap, dried, spray on, clean with one microfiber and wait for a second to polish with a second cloth... Very easy on & off.
