I may have posted this before but...

I played football in high school. Wasn't very good and spent most of my time on the bench but we were a small team, small in number and in size. I think we had 25 or so players and our biggest guy my jr year was Keith Nelson (guitarist and co-founder of Buckcherry). He was about 6'1 and 215-220. We had a great coach and there were 2 signs in the locker room.

1) Winners never quit, quitters never win

2) I'm a firm believer in luck but the harder I try the more luck I seem to have

So my jr year we won the championship. I think we had the smallest team in our conference. In the first round of playoffs we went up against a huge team in about 4" of mud. We were all about speed and that gave them a huge advantage. We won 15-14. The next round in the semi-finals we went up against an undefeated team that had 2 1000 yard rushers and were told no way we would win. We shut them down. I think they had under 50 total yards of offense. We won 27-0. In the championship we went up against a perennial powerhouse and won like 23-17. We only lost 1 game that year and that was a 7-6 loss. The other team went for it on 4th down and it was so close the ref got a credit card out and tried to stick it between the ball and the stick so they gave it to them. That game was tagged the credit card game. Then we had a TD pass that they rules our guy out of bounds but watching the films Monday he was in. Then our extra point was over top of the goal post and they called it a miss. A good friend of my mothers was a ref from that opposing teams district and was there. He said he would have called it good but he wasn't working that game.

Oh well. Great coaching that pushed us to get more from us than we normally would have had.
