420/44 DB Owners Club

I have done 3 boats and the home bathroom with this process.
Buy 4 x 8 - 3/4" sheets of 3-ply Bamboo plywood, cut pcs. to fit tight together, finish with Bona Traffic floor finish, route 1/8" slots in all joining edges, use 1/8" x 1" aluminum as splines, splines can be placed in slots as you assemble pcs or slid in from the end if necessary, hatches lay on adjoining pcs with a 3/8" rabbet. Pretty much all have been free floating tight fit in location. salon floor lays right on the fiberglass floor, center panel lays on others with rabbet, other are splined & slide inboard for removal, all 5 slide under custom threshold at slider. other parts are stuck down with either 2-way foam tape or silicon. Most challenging parts were the threshold at slider & removable pc at top of galley stairs to allow lifting of stairs.

Nice job,
Maybe next winters project

Anyone know who makes our electrical panel circuit breakers/switches? I want to see about adding another one or two and trying to make look stock. Thanks

I think they are made by Carling...check out Flounder Pounder or Great Lakes Skipper....I have bought them from both...

For the SB without the cockpit bench, is there a way to get one? Are they molded in place? Something that can be added?

SeaNile, are you looking for a cockpit bench. I have one just removed. It is on the wrong coast...

can anyone verify if our boats have 24x12 size trim tabs? Until I haul out in next month I can't check.
Thanks

While doing some work in the lazarette area today I noticed that the starboard engine exhaust tube is actually smaller than the port side tube. By about 2” diameter difference.
Anyone else’s different size between engines?

Yes, same on my 07 44DB 6 inch starboard and 8 inch port side.
Am I the only one that had to lookup what a lazarette was?

Wonder what’s up with that difference?
I want to say some BS like:
The smaller exhaust helps the motor to create more torque for the counter rotating prop.
But really I have nothing that I can see for a reason to not have the same size exhaust on both sides

Pondered this myself as I wondered why star throws with more force at the bypass exhaust compared to the port. My guess is to allow for better flow since there is 2 90 degree elbows on the port side vs the star.

Alternate school of thought is to make changing the black water vent filter a royal PIA!

The 2 90’s on the port side would make sense. I know in piping such as refrigeration a 90 is equal to X amount of additional feet of pipe.

They are all like that. There is a reason and I knew it at one time, but no longer remember. Somewhere in this thread is the answer.

Here’s my answer to the black water tank vent, Big orange mounted behind the genny fuel valve panel. Yes I know it won’t do any good without being hooked up, I’ve got a couple months!

Interesting you posting this, yesterday I was working on boat and had that genny panel pulled out and inside there was a second vent filter. So I’m guessing the previous owners did not replace the filter sitting on top of tank and instead cut the vent line behind gen panel and added a second filter there and just changed that one as needed.

Please understand this is only my experience, but….I think you guys are stressing too much over the holding tank filters. In 10+ years of owning SRs with holding tanks, I have installed a new one when I bought the boat, always used NoFlex, never let the tank overflow into the filter, and never changed it again. The admiral has a nose like a bloodhound and we have never gotten a whiff of anything from the tank. We have always used the toilets just like we use the ones at home-for everything….

Just my $0.02…
