2021 Oil Spill Notice

I saw a graphic this morning. It had dozens of ships anchored in the area of the pipeline.
I read the problem is related to a lack of longshoreman willing to work. The delays in unloading ships is causing a traffic jam and a shortage of places to anchor.

So the captain sailed to Chicago with his anchor deployed and upon arrival tried to retrieve the anchor and discovered it missing? Doesn't sound quite right. I do remember the event in question but never heard this version.

That’s exactly what happened. If you reread my original post, you’ll see that I mentioned they didn’t realize the anchor had been deployed. They noticed when they got to port that the chain was deployed and when they hauled it all back up, there was no anchor.

While you “never heard that version,” it was in every article written on the incident. Here’s one:

Somewhat amazing the captain did not know that the anchor was not retrieved. I suppose these tugs have so much towing capability that an anchor is somewhat trivial in terms of the drag it creates.
