So, we got the engine running great. No overheating. 2 weeks, cruising all over. Yesterday i go down to raise the idle a little cause its been stalling backing into slip. So I’m looking at top of intake manifold and wondering why is there water on top since it ain’t rained in 2 weeks. Did smell test, gas. Dripping where fuel line goes into carb. Goddam it. Another weekend shot trying to line up a mechanic this week. At least I caught it before exploding. Stalling was from losing fuel pressure. Text 2 mechanics, may be fixed soon. And NO, please dont suggest how to fix myself. I ain’t blowin it up. Some things i leave to certify mechanics. Like fuel explosions.
Dam I do love this. If you dont then dont get a boat. Serious. Who said on here “Its always broke, you just don’t know it yet”. We keep people employed!!!!!

So i thinking. Each one of is like Warren Buffet. We employ gas dock workers, mechanics, fiberglass, canvas, mom n pop prop shops, millions of folks depend on us.
So next time you wreck a prop, hit a rock, tear up the fiberglass, smile cause you are keeping many people employed.

This is why the “luxury” yacht tax from the late 80/ was so bad. It had a terrible ripple effect that shot through the whole boating industry, hurting all those builders abs smaller vendors while not doing much else. One boat provides a lot of income to other people.

Why on earth would you need to hire a mechanic to fix a minor leak at the inlet. Did you first see if it was just loose? If it is tight then it may have been over tightened and the threaded boss maybe cracked. In that case I would have a conversation with the last guy that worked on the carb.
My heart aches for guys held hostage by the need for a mechanic for even the most minor items.
Hope it is a simple fix, you have had your share of issues this season for sure.
Carpe Diem

The reason is, the brass fittings can cross thread easy. I don’t know if they got cross threaded by last mechanic, if i mess it up i would have to pull the carb and take to a shop. So if i can get the last guy to check it out i would feel better. Plus, i really dont like messing with fuel leak issues on a boat. Feel much safer letting a marine mechanic handle it.
So if i dont touch it, its his dime.

Electrics and fuel issues are scary for sure

I’ve always felt that if I had the tools and ability to make the repair, I’d be in a better position to fix it properly as I have a vested interest in seeing that it gets done correctly, after all, it’s my boat.

I agree, I’m at the point where it’s hard to trust someone to repair things properly, even with what we pay for it

Early 1990's...Clinton's Administration. They thought they'd sock it to those rich people. Put thousands of people out of work and mostly killed the boat manufacturing business on the East Coast.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions......Joe Biden.

I am not saying tax the rich more…. Just tax the rich. Amazon is no different then the mafia going down the street and taking protection money. Amazon takes a percentage of everything you sell thru them and then increases it as you get bigger….. and then in turn gets tax abatements when they start a new distribution center

All the while putting local hard working multi-generational family business owners out of business.

If you get big enough, they will copy your product and undercut you.

Sorry, but as a construction electrician, the Clinton era was fantastic to be a working person….
