Is there anyone in So. Calif. out there???

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone.

I was telling my broker on the phone today that I've quite literally picked the worst time in history to buy I've been daydreaming about boats for years, and actually came really close to pulling the trigger on a 350 back in 2019. Just wasn't fully prepared financially to take it on. Funny enough, if I would've bought the boat back then it would've actually been a great investment (I can't believe I'm talking about boats and investments in the same sentence). I read some stories of people selling their boats for double after just one year, crazy stuff.

Welcome to CSR!
What sort of boat are you looking for? Not only did you pick the worst time of the year to buy, prices right now are abnormally high. Check out this thread with lots of examples of pricing gone wild here in the US: http://www.clubsearay.com/index.php?threads/man-are-boat-prices-going-up.103498/
CaptainEd here on CSR has his boat at the Kona Kai Marina in San Diego. Let us know what you are looking for and maybe we can help. When I bought my boat last summer, I ended up finding it in the Delta near Sacramento and brought it down to SoCal. The prices were better and it was nice to get a fresh water boat.

I'm looking for a 28-35 foot Sundancer, CY, or Regal (of course Sundancer is #1 on the list). Preferably something a bit newer. My budget is around $140k. Really digging these two as options right now: https://www.yachtworld.com/boats/2015/cruisers-yachts-310-express-3830749/
https://www.yachtworld.com/boats/2011/sea-ray-310-sundancer-3706393/

Weird seeing a 2005 sundancer be listed for the same price as a 2011. I think some of these guys are just placing huge asks and seeing if any dummies bite.

Ha, thanks for linking that crazy prices thread - I actually read most of it over this past weekend and caught up in there earlier today, absolutely insane. Truthfully am glad for the people who have been in this hobby for years and can get some money out of it.

Hmm, sounds like I might need to just suck it up for this season and begin my search again in August. I have read that prices might just keep soaring for a few more years since already 22/23 new models are sold out. Even so, it still makes sense to wait till the end of summer so i can actually get some inventory/options.

Hey Kas, ya boat prices have gone insane. But i found if you search The book of faces in your local area you can find something to float on. Buddy, its not like a car. You will spend way way more than you plan. Breaks a lot, requires massive attention and repairs. Owning a boat aint for shallow pockets and peeps with no commitment to the lifestyle.

LOL took me a second to realize what you meant by the book of faces. I know it's not like a car - I've already learned that the banknote on the boat is the cheapest monthly expense

I've been wanting to get a boat for 6+ years but it wasn't the right time, or I felt like I was going to stretch myself thin financially, or thought "maybe this is just a phase I'm going through". Anyways, at this point, I'm finally deciding Im just gonna do it. If ive been thinking about it for this long, its obviously not just a phase. I want to give it a real shot. Even if I'm out after a year or two, I dont think I can go any further on in life wondering "what if if I had a boat".

“Just buy the d*mn boat!” Good call on your part…

Yeah, I’m here in San Diego (Kona Kai) as well. Let me know if there’s anything I can do to help.

I guess the next question is what are your boating plans? Are you looking for a nice day cruiser around Mission Bay or are you planning to take it out into the open ocean for trips to Catalina, Ensenada, etc?
For a bay cruiser, a gas powered boat in your price range gets you a newer model. If you are going off shore, I think you should be looking for a diesel. They are much more reliable, get better fuel economy, the price of fuel is less, less maintenance and are by far safer than any gas boat. The downside is you will be looking at an older boat that might not be as “sexy”. :D
Also remember that you can tow a 28-35’ boat in most states without a permit. You might want to expand your search outside of CA to find a pristine, fresh water boat, maybe one that was stored in a covered slip or indoors.

It seems the larger D series Prochargers didnt sell very well and then the F series made them obsolete. Just wonder if anyone out there still runs one.
Do you even read the thread? I guess you're still trolling for a rich man!

Hello,

Representing Alamitos Bay! New to SeaRay! Nice to meet everybody!
Welcome to CSR! We were in Alamitos for a sunset cruise two weeks ago. I saw another 450 EB that is docked near 55th and Ocean Blvd, virtually a twin to my boat. Waived at him with no response. Saw him again, maybe 45 minutes later in the turning basin at Rainbow Harbor near Shoreline. Waived again with no response. We concluded maybe he thought he was looking in a mirror. o_O
We are over at Cabrillo Way Marina. Let me know if you need anything. We are usually in Catalina on weekends during the season and the Admiral (my wife Stacy) loves to visit the Farmer's Market in Alamitos on Sunday when we return.

Jim & The Admiral (Stacy),

Great to meet you both. Sorry to hear not all Searay owners aren't as friendly as you! Thank you for the kind offer. The Farmers's Market in Alamitos is so much fun! When we spend Saturday nights in the marina it is always a wonderful place to wander around on a Sunday morning!

Catalina has been really nice this summer to beat the heat. They had a great concert on the Wrigley Stage (downtown) on the beach this past Saturday night from 8-10pm.

I'm in SoCal as well with a 07' 260DA. Currently in Huntington Harbor, but will be moving soon to Shoreline or Cabrillo Way. We primarily use it go to Two Harbors in Catalina.

I was in Shoreline for a day. Our boat needs 50 amp service and the dock they put us on only had 30. The condition of the docks were also a bit outdated and I thought the security was just average. Day two we moved to Cabrillo Way and are much happier. The only downside is you don’t get the shopping and restaurants that are close by like in Long Beach. I did see in the news that the Ports of Call area in San Pedro is getting revamped so hopefully things will change. But other than that, CW is a great option that is close to Catalina. You are also closer to the Jankovich fuel dock which offers some the lowest prices in So Cal. Welcome to CSR!

Shoreline would only be temporary until I was able to transfer to Alamitos Bay. At Cabrillo I am tempted to just have it dry docked since we really only use it to/from Catalina and that would save a lot of wear on the outdrive. Main downside of Cabrillo vs Alamitos for me is the longer drive from home. Alamitos is about 20-25 minutes and Cabrillo is at least double that. Cabrillo is a much shorter crossing though to Two Harbors, which the family appreciates. Love being on the boat once in Catalina, but less of a fan of the crossings.

Alamitos is nice but the public can walk right on the docks. We side tied there overnight a few months ago and loved going to the farmers market on Sunday, but the lack of security was noted by the tenants we spoke with.
We are on C dock at Cabrillo right near the dry dock. That is a nice operation! The other bonus to being in that area is your car is in covered parking now with all of the new solar panels.

Long Beach Shoreline Marina 2007 Sundancer 290. Have a great day everyone

We will soon be your neighbors! We got a slip over in Basin 8. We love the secure/gated parking and full size gate on the gangway and it is nice and close to shopping and restaurants.

The Newport Beach Christmas Parade is officially back! Last year there was an unofficial event that was great but may have had 50% of the normal entries. This year the boats are looking great!
