How do you open the engine hatch when batteries are dead?

If the battery charger is providing power to the batteries you should be able to open the engine hatch by having the shore power and battery charger on when you push the button to open the engine hatch.
If the batteries went completely dead, it may be that the battery charger is not detecting the batteries--smart chargers won't be able to 'see' the batteries to charge them if they are below a certain voltage. Plug one of those lithium car charger/starter things into the cigarette light (or if it's clips, hook them to a positive and negative busbar under the dash). The charger should then 'see' the batteries and lift the hatch. Obviously, check the hatch breaker before you go through all the trouble. Additionally, you also have the emergency access port referenced above. Had the same issue last year on my 340.
