official 290 Amberjack thread

The knurled ring that is against the front of the mounting plate is a nut. You will need to hold the body of the switch and use pliers or something to turn it. Looks like you might want to soak it in PB Blaster or something for a few before trying it. It looks pretty frozen.

Thank you! I tried that but it didn’t move at all, I’ll try to soak it longer next time.

Replaced my 05 Amberjack dash panels bought from FP marine, I decided to go with the black star dust color instead of the factory wood one. The quality is extremely high and I love it. I also went ahead and replace the gauges cover with the gaugesaver lenses and they look brand new. Easiest way is to use a dremmel tool to cut out the old lenses, took a while to remove the first one but after that it went quickly.

I had my mid-berth opened a few years ago. There are chases running for and aft on the port side for plumbing and sanitation and an aft chase on the stb side for the tank plumbing. I believe the wiring for the tank sensor and the sump box runs up the stb side under the dinette or helm but I don't recall it being a defined chase. I would think your best bet would be to pull the wire from the helm to the bilge then into the mid-berth. Alternately, you can try to follow the wiring for the sump box. You may be able to fish down to the mid-berth by removing the small panel inside the rear cabinet over the dinette (closest to helm). Here are a few pics I had of the mid-berth opened, hope it helps.

Thanks!
Last fall, I ran the water lines to the heater from the bilge on the port side, through the bulkhead just above the water tank. Still need to get the power to the fan. I could easily follow the hoses to the bilge.
It there a conduit that goes from the bilge to the area below rhe helm?
There are several places to get power and ground up there.

Mine is kept at Queen Anne Marina, right next to the bay, Im not doing any work on my boat as I don't know much about it besides replacing minor stuff lol, my marine mechanic is going to do all the work. I had to replaced the block on the starboard side last year too. Bought the boat from Fort Lauderdale and my mechanic said that the salt water that it sat on is what caused it.
Did you get the engine finished?
How'd it go?

Hello Bill! Hope all is well with you and your family. The engine got finished last fall and it’s running really good. Hopefully nothing else goes wrong this season. Take care! Tommy.

Can somebody do me a huge favor. I have a 2000 amberjack and was wondering if your trim gauges work like they are supposed too? If they do would you be able to look on the outdrive where the aft trim cylinder attaches and see if the white phenolic block is in the forward or aft position? Would appreciate it. I am having issues with trim gauge showing full down but full trim up is at 21.75" and gauge shows lite more than half way

Hello guys! Im having trouble with my AC system, it keeps giving the "HI PS" code" and no water cycling in and out of the boat while the unit is on. After googling and watching some YouTube videos I cleaned out the strainer basket and it still didn't work. Just to clarify the seacock and strainer for the AJ290 is right in the open in the bilge correct? There were 2 seacocks next to each other so I cleaned out both of them just incase. One of the strainer basket black plastic bottom is missing a piece so I need to replace it, anyone happened to have the links for that part? Thank you very much for your time. Tommy

You may just have to adjust the trim sender a bit. My cylinders have 2 3/8" from back of cylinder anode to the center of the bolt when fully trimmed down.

29' Amberjack Hi its been a long time since I've been here & I can't find out how to start a new thread. Anyway on our 08 Amberjack the bilge vent cover is coming off; it's detaching from the caulk/glue. There doesn't appear any screws holding it on only the caulk. Has anyone had this same issue and repaired it? I don't want to loose this probably irreplaceable part. Thanks

Are you talking the long pieces on the bow on both ends ? If so I had the same problem and it looked like it was coming loose so I just drilled 2 small holes and attached screws to it.

These vents are at the rear on each side of the hull and have the Amberjack name on them; fastening with a screw would be difficult and do to the weight and size would require many more than 2 screws and wouldn't look very good.

I see… yours must be an 08 or newer with the metal plates outside, mine is an 05 and doesn’t have that.

290AJ Owners. Throughout the years we've never had a reason to convert the dinette to a sleeper and therefore haven't done it. After spending last weekend on the boat we decided to drop the table and see how it sets up. Can anyone post a pic of their dinette converted and show what filler cushions go where, etc? I'm thinking we don't have all the filler cushions as we couldn't make a complete sleaping area. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

The filler cushions are down below the helm, attached to the wall with velcro. I had the boat for about 3 yrs before I realized that the dinette seats would slide out to make a full size bed.

Hope this helps

Has anyone replace the steering wheel on an 05 Amberjack 290? I tried to replace it with a stainless tri-spoke one before but it doesn't fit I think the Amberjack needs a special steering wheel and not just the universal one with the 1 nut on the cover and I don't know what they are call. The shaft is slotted or something of that nature. Do I need a hub adapter or something? Thanks in advance.
I have a 04 AJ and had to replace my steering wheel. I used a traditional 5 spoke and it fit fine. Pry off the center cap with the Sea Ray logo, and remove the nut. Do not loose the key on the shaft.

I am in contract for a 290 Amberjack, and want to add to rod holders for storage in the cabin. I am curious if anyone else has done so, and if so where/how the rod holders were located.

Thanks in advance

Celticknot, my amberjack has the twin 5.7 and bravo 3s and cruises 3500 rpm at 28knts, full throttle is about 45 kits why is yours so low?
