Official 290 Sundancer Thread

This 290 thread has been pretty quiet. What is everyone planning to do before launch? Here is my short list:

1. Install grease fittings on both outdrives to hopefully eliminate/mitigate the leaking steering pin.
2. Compound and wax - Smoove 1000 and then White Cloud for below rub rail. Smoove Bubble gum above.
3. Get my Genset working - $$$ - why is it such a POS?
4. Install Vessel View Mobile (need to replace 4 port hub with 6 port hub)
5. Rebed VHF antenna and somehow repaint it (havent figured this out yet)
6. Replace duck horn with dual trumpet horn =)
7. Anodes, bottom and drive touch up, waste filter, etc maintenance items

Anyone doing anything really cool?? Pyro...I know you have a lot going on. Send some pics!

We never stopped boating down here so I do maintenance year round. However last week I had the Upholstery redone to look like the newer ones. (Diamond stitching and all) I also just had Seadek layed down. It's like a whole new boat!

That diamond stitching looks great!!

Hmm. Same here. I have quite a jobs list as this is my first winter storage. First is to wait for the Swedish weather to give me a nice spell of + degrees then check my engines turn thus confirming my antifreeze flush worked! It’s been down to -25 but my test gadget showed the antifreeze mix was good for -30. Fingers crossed.

After a couple of years of long expensive lists, this year is simply change oils, patch up a canvas tear and impeller change.

That's it!!!

Oh, of course the yearly wax-on, wax-off:D

Question guys and gals, 98 290 with twin 5.7 EFIs/alphas. Can someone tell me what fuel filter I need and impeller for drives and generator. First maintenance I am gonna do myself. Plan on doing oil, drive oil, impellers (generator and drives). Boat is in slip hour away and I cant seem to find on club sea ray or google with any success. Motors have 435 hrs Generator ( Kohler) 120hrs. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I used to do all this with my Eliminator Daytona but this is a different beast. Thanks in advance.

Pretty excited today, summer-izing and launch! "Mdolesh", curious if you have decided on the duel trumpet horn yet?

Please do yourself a favor and take a picture of your engine and generator data plates that way it's easier to find maintenance parts for your boat.

For the 98 please take a look in my signature and click on my stash of documents I've collected over the years.

You will find the Engine Service Manual 24 and a Kohler Generator manual that covers the one that might be in your boat.

Yes! Installed it yesterday. Removed the old Glomex antenna and mounted the horn there, routed a cable down behind the helm, installed a new button/switch on the dash and tied it into the +/- bus bar behind the helm using a 10amp fuse. Routing the wire from the top of the arch was by far the most difficult. We tried fish tape but it wouldn't make the bend. We finally used the old coax cable that was for the Glomex as a pull. It wasnt a hard install but took some time. The horn sounds AWESOME! If you plan on doing it I can share some tips and tricks.

Fantastic, yes, I'm definitely replacing the old! What brand/model did you choose? Curious why you installed a new switch?

Nothing fancy, just a 12v (didnt want a compressor) here is the one at Walmart https://www.walmart.com/ip/Pactrade...m-msg-id=7dab42b6-3dd3-4021-b955-6830c483354c

We decided on a new switch (really a push button) for a number of reasons. Our initial plan was to tap into the old horn wiring and install a relay (the EIM is 5amps, horn draws 7amp). Once we got into the project it was very difficult to find which cable etc was for the old horn and everything is tight in there. So this way we eliminated the need for a relay and we didnt tamper with the factory horn. I also like having the option to quack or blast the trumpets depending on the situation.

Will do and thank you!

I guess I'm getting a reputation of my projects!

My list:
- Underwater, cockpit and swim platform lights. Will be taking pictures and posting the project soon enough.
- Replace thermostat housings. They were in bad shape and it seemed like the thermostats were stuck open. Hopefully is why my hot water heater wouldn't heat up last year.
- Fix through hull transducer drip leak. Just took out the housing today. Glad to see it's all fiberglass down there so no damage. I hope to have a 100% dry bilge this year! Last year I had a few drops coming in from the housing to hull seal.
- Finish my water tank gauge to helm. Installed ultrasonic sensor in tank last year but never ran wire to helm and installed gauge
- Fix slight fuel leak around fuel pump regulator. Ordered new top cover due to corrosion which is odd since no salt water touches this part. I actually ordered a whole new cool fuel module last year, before I realized I can fix just the cover cheaper. So will be selling the unused cool fuel module.
- Adjust engine alignment on one engine since I removed engines 1 year earlier. Perhaps they settled or I was off on initial alignment. Prob needs 3/4 turn. Glad to see my bolts are in good shape since I cleaned them up with engine removal. I put some new grease on them and they turned really easily today.
- Replace belts. Hopefully get rid of the flaking pieces of rubber getting all over the bilge
- Install wire on drain plugs to hopefully use them end of season to fish oil drain hose out.
- Clean up rust on water pump pulley and repaint in place
- Wash and wax!

I think I'm going to put off my Axiom MFD project another year. Cost is hard to justify. But we'll see...

Wanted to share what I've been working on the last couple months. This stereo has been one of the hardest projects yet. Running wires/RCA's and RGB from helm to under area by bed was time consuming and tedious to say the least. Think it turned out well. Got a JL 13.5 W7 with Rockford Fosgate T1500-1 BDCP and JL HD600-4 running 2 M6 8.8's and 2 M6 7.7's. Wetsounds pre EQ and Arc Audio DSP Tuned with Program called Room EQ ( REW ).Thing sounds phenomenal.

The seats look fantastic. My 290 needs all new cockpit Vinyls too. Did you have this done locally?

Hey Crew, found this thread just messing around, Pilot and Little Ducky know me from the older 290 thread. Seems that Me and my ‘99 290 are on the isle of misfit toys. I’ve always prided myself on not buying the first year of a change over. Having not done enough research I blew it. Anyway love my boat so I will be watching both threads from now on.

Going through a cabin lighting upgrade has anyone here replaced the long fluorescents in the cabin?

There are 2 sets of fixtures under each cover. 1 is dc and the other is ac.
I replaced the ac units with off the shelf units from Home Depot. I believe they are led tubes for about $60 each

Thanks Wanderer, did you replace the bulbs or the whole fixture? I am trying to find some sort of cool looking new fixture that I can dim…can you say oooooo

The whole fixture requires replacement. The previous fixture was a florescent tube with a ballast.
I am not sure if the led fixture/ lights are dimmable but that would be neat.
The arrow points to the new light.
