Spring Polishing has begun

I wasn’t going to say anything until I get to the blue hull. This year everything is new so don’t know how it’s going to perform over the summer.
Here’s what I am trying.... To compound I am using Sonax Cutmax...it’s a German product and gets great reviews ..you can google YouTube vids comparing it to other products...more popular in automotive, very low dust. Using a rotary with a 3M compound wool pad at 1,800 rpm. In that pic I posted it’s hard to tell but the very top is original...I just compounded the side
To polish this year I am trying Collinites product but I am using a rotary with a 3M wool polishing pad instead of an orbital and a foam pad.
To wax I am using collinite 885
Also trying something new with the non skid. Jescar Power lock plus, it’s a polymer applied after you polish, then wax over with Collinite 885

Very awesome!! Thank you for sharing!! This year, I have tried a few things in different places. 3M compound, Collinite 885, Collinite 845, Meguiar’s Flagship Premium Cleaner Wax, and a few others. Haha. I have never heard of the Jescar, or Sonax.

Do you compound every year Blueone? I haven’t gone down that road yet. It’s either a combo polish/wax from McGuires or Flag Ship.

Looking good!

I thought I was the only one to wax the radar dome!

I'm sticking with Smoove this year, it held up just as well as Starbrite last year but with an easier application.

I moved slips last year that put my port side in the sun all day. By the end of the summer I could see oxidization patches. I haven’t compounded the blue for two years prior. I had two coats of Smoove in the spring and didn’t touch it after.
I was out of smoove and had a full can of Collinite 885 paste.... so I thought it would be a good test

My first day today to start the compound, polish and wax journey... Trying something new to compound with and it is working very well so far...Pic is just compounding. I am here for the rest of the week...I am doing the whole boat so I have a long haul ahead
Just finished washing my pads in the hotel room :).... now to find a restaurant

I bet that isnt the only time a buffer has been used in that hotel room.

I couldn’t get off the damn hardtop today with that collinite 885. I tried all kinds of dry times and removal methods. So tossed it. I had a bit of Smoove left so finished it up with that in a half hour. I ordered some more today for the rest of the boat

Finished waxing the radar too :)

I wonder what Blueone is doing right now? :D
That was a long day.... tomorrow the Blue hull.... washed it all down with vinegar and water before I left .... that’s the first time I have done that so will see how it works out

The gel looks great! I feel you on that collinite.

I own a yacht management company as well as mainly do brokerage. The Collinite was all the rage back in the day and it held up well but my arms still hurt thinking about getting all of that stuff off. Don’t even think about putting that on your diamond pattern non skid. It will shine and bead up like crazy until it doesn’t, at that time it will look a dull grey color and you will be forced to soft scrub with bleach scrub it down and have white runs going down the side of your hull.

We exclusively use Starke Yacht Care and it’s the best I’ve used in 15+ years.

On a boat like yours, elevate with a white wool pad followed by hybrid marine sealant will make it look like brand new. Elevate does not powder up and has a much longer working time, also won’t cake up your pad.

My god... people pay that ?.... I am pissed off at $4,200
My son built a pole barn. It was sized to fit the boat. The door is Huuuuuge. It may have cost 20 grand in the beginning, but Winter storage is free.

Well today was a gong show... there must be 70 to 80 boats in this building. I have been the only one in the building for two days now...until late this morning when a couple guys come in in hazmat suits and park all their crap by the boat behind me. They proceed to setup camp to do a full on bottom paint job on the boat overhanging my swim platform
We all signed a contract that says no sanding or painting in the building among a million other things. So as the sanding begins... I am getting a little frustrated... only because I am compounding the blue hull... I say to myself I can’t believe I have to call the office but do anyway.... they jerk me around on the phone... but know they should send out the manager...an hour later the manager who has never met me says.... I hear you have a question for me.... I said ya the sanding... he says “it’s a dustless system...you could sand without a mask it’s that safe”... I walked away in disgust and he had the nerve to ask if I had anymore questions.... this guy has a bad rep and it never bothered me because I never saw it first hand... well I did today...

Did they plastic the boat behind you off? I would think they would at least require it be tented. I'm looking to have mine cut and buffed and the guy I use tents it and they said no to that. Absolutely no sanding but painting wasn't an issue.
