One thing I haven’t seen posted here is anything on remote monitoring. There have been a number of NMEA 2000 write ups and questions etc. but nothing on remote monitoring. Burglar alarm systems is about the closest I have seen. So I thought I would share what I am using to do that.

There are not many solutions for this that I have found. But there are a few. One is from Siren Marine it looks like a real nice solution, but does need a cellular contract and a cloud subscription. The cloud is as low as $180/yr but the cell is ???/month? It looks pretty nice with a lot of inputs like an alarm system, but also has an NMEA 2000 connection and can pick up what is available on the network including tank levels etc. I haven’t seen whether or not it supports any kind of video or not. I thought I would mention that before I continue with what I am using. As it looks like a great system. And at the end of the day it costs about the same as the IPG100 that I am using.

Another way is to do it yourself with products from companies like Maretron and Foscam. I am using the Maretron IPG100 to remotely monitor the boats systems and a Foscam R4 camera to monitor motion and act as an alarm system of sorts. Maretron offers a cloud service for tracking and reporting from the IPG and cost’s ~$300/yr but I think it is worth it. The free Foscam app offers cloud DVR and storage for a yearly charge. A 3 day video history is ~$40/yr. I think this is more then enough since the app will notify you right away of motion and/or sound triggers. This works real well and I have been using this for a few years now. One qualification is you need to have internet on the boat or none of this will work ...

The Foscam R4 camera is also affordable ~$90 and is PTZ and also has 2 way audio drop in.

The Maretron IPG100 is an interesting device, locally (or remotely for that matter) it can display your entire N2K engine data (like their N2KView server app) as a web page. You can have multiple pages of different device list etc. and their associated data. I have one set of pages for the tablet on the boat and one for my cell phone. These pages are stored in the IPG and can be viewed by any device capable of running their app.

The screens are completely customizable and can be done so with their N2KView software , no license needed to edit files so it's free to use for this. That procedure is not for the faint of heart but can be learned fairly quickly. If you are a software person you should have no need to look at any of the instructions except what is needed to get connected etc.

One thing to note is that none of the data in these screens is generated by the IPG, it comes from the N2K devices I have on board already and can be from any manufacturer. The IPG just puts it all together. I have been using this a few years as well.

Here are a few of the screen I use. Note they were just captured and the boat is still winterized and not much is working at the moment. The pump status and lights are always functional as is most of the status screen. All of these screens have been created by myself using their software. It's high level and drag and drop, no actual code writing. So pretty much anyone can do this.

This is my cell phone status view:

These are on the tablet which is by the helm always:

Great thread to start, I would love to be able to get the info on the first 2 pics, the voltage, currents, cabin temps, engine room temp etc

Thanks. All this is based on NMEA 2000. Once I started with N2K I just kept going because I could see what it could do.

The AC is monitored through a Maretron ACM100, the temps are through Yacht Devices YDTC-13 and my DST800 N2K transducer. The status pieces for the pumps are from a Maretron RIM100 (similar setup as @ttmott 's system monitor post) and the lights are controlled through a DCR100 by Maretron. When I first got my boat the fuel gauges weren't very accurate so I replaced them with Maretron's TLM100's as with the fresh water as well. I have a few displays around the boat to be able to check on these as well, not just at the helm.

Damn you man!!! Now I have to keep up with you (again)!!!:D

Seriously, very nice!! The screens are Maretron NK2View to do this?? One other option is the Yacht Devices NEMA2000 Gateway.

Thanks. But yep, I also have the YDNR-02 to convert the N2K data to 0183 for my older (SPx10) Raymarine AP. Same screens and setup, also wifi, pretty nice device all in all. Except with the yacht devices they don't have cloud service for that, at least they didn't last time I looked. They have the tracking cloud service for their logger.

The Maretron cloud service gets around all of the blocking that ISP's do to stop us from doing these things. I can access the boat from anywhere there is wifi or cell service. The nice part is that we can be away on the boat, and I can still check on things from anywhere.

@SKybolt ...all the power to you. I was you once with my house. I automated everything imaginable... from music to cameras.... my wife still receives every text the house sends her... I have turned them all off. The only thing that the house caught that was worth the automation was my daughter backing out of the garage with her brand new suv when she backed thru the garage door when it was half open....we got a sound alarm, motion alarm and a garage door malfunction alarm, a photo text....and an alarm not set text and garage door left open alarm.... a call from my daughter and my wife.. But it was an hilarious video.
This was 7 years ago I got the bug...it was all Honeywell hardware and one by one started to die, malfunction, lose connection...basically just fell apart... it’s like buying a computer in three years it’s obsolete....will never do it again
So for the boat I bought “The Foscam R4 camera is also affordable ~$90 and is PTZ and also has 2 way audio drop in.” That you mentioned...simple, text message after motion sensing and you can look in on the boat when you miss it. That Foscam is worth every penny... it caught a raccoon on the boat... for a few nights it would wake me up at 2:00 in the morning with a motion text but I never saw anything.... then finally caught the little guy.... best investment in a simple camera I ever made

@Blueone too funny, for the past 20yrs I have an automated house with the same things you mention, also when I moved recently, I started up all over again.

I've had this going on the boat for 3-4 years now as well.

Really cool you caught the raccoon, they can really do some damage trying to get out.

Funny you started this thread... A buddy of mine gave me a Siren Marine MTC, I ordered all the sensors I wanted and plan to start the install this weekend. Been on the to-do list for a couple months just hadn't gotten around to it.

Yeah, I was looking at that system about a year ago and thought it was a great system to build upon. Good luck with it all.

Yes, the app can be downloaded and ran for free. Although a license is required to run the app live, it can be ran to create and download screens to the IPG100 for free. If you have the cloud service you can even download screens from where ever you are to the IPG as well. Nice benefit of the cloud service.

The nice thing about the IPG and N2KView is that you can create your own custom views for your data along with canned views from Maretron that can be edited to what you want.

Correct, Siren doesn’t do videos.
On the pricing, there is only one type of subscription that covers both the cellular and the cloud functions. The annual cost is $180, or they have a seasonal April1 to October 31 subscription. I've been looking at the siren Pro and I think its the right option for me. I like that it connote to N2K now.

Yeah, I think this is going to be the option for most people. It's pretty much set and forget from what I see and why I mentioned it. It would nice to have clarity on how it exactly uses N2K, meaning does it output any PGN's based on it's wireless sensors and what does it support when receiving PGN's.

I went the Maretron route because the 3 Pro wasn't available 3+ years ago, I think then only the MTC was available and didn't offer any N2K value so I moved on.

The original Siren MTC did have an N2k connection as an optional accessory. It’s certain nice that N2k is now integrated.

I just sent of an email to them requesting what PGNs they support for send and receive.

Strange I still can't find any listing for the N2K support of the MTC, but just the same, it would be great to know what's supported. Please post back what they list, very curious about that.

No N2K on the MTC that I have ever seen, you have to go to the new Siren 3 for that I am pretty sure. Since this was a freebie I will live with what it can do as I am just looking for a level of basic security and notification and this will do it for now. Plus once I "home run" all the wiring I can always upgrade to newer technology as it comes out and my demands go up. Hoping to get a bunch wired this weekend if possible... I will keep you posted on this thread.

Awesome Grant and thanks for the clarification. I think ultimately the 3 Pro is the way to go as your needs expand and you see what it can do. Would love to hear your take on it.

I went to look up N2K support for the MTC version. I would have sworn that it has the integration as an option because I recall thinking the Pro 3 price increase was justified with the standard N2k integration being included. But for the life of me I can’t find that anywhere now. I’m stumped - maybe I dreamed it.

No worries Brad. I've done it many times as well. When your looking at a lot of different tech the features start to bleed together. Anyway I'd love to see what they support when they get back with you. They don't list the supported PGN's from what I can see (missed it maybe?).

I didn’t see a list of PGNs and I looked. I’ll post what they reply with.
