Hi all
I’ll soon be winterizing my 400DB for the first time (with Cummins diesels). I live in Canada so this is a full-on winterization. Does anyone have a checklist that they would share? I’m building a checklist and will share it with anyone who is interested...just trying to make it as complete as possible.

Thanks in advance. Stay safe!

Jon

Have you looked in the 400DB thread?

I can’t really help. I’m in heated indoor storage and the prep is included. I drain the water etc but they do the rest.

Here is the list I have created.

Wow...thanks so much. That’s exactly what I was hoping for.

No problem. There are supposed to be bulleted with indents so some of it may not read how I have it in the word doc. I print the list off and check the boxes off as I go along.

The list above is very good and should cover our model well. Unless I missed it above, the only thing I will add is that here in the Great Lakes and Canada, we never use the overboard discharge so it can get forgotten about at winterization time.
If it hasn’t been removed altogether from your boat, don’t forget to open the seacock. Put a 5 gallon bucket under it first. My procedure for the black water tank is to pump out and rinse several times just before haul out, then the pink that goes into the tank from winterizing the toilets gets pumped out into the bucket with the overboard discharge.
On our boats the drain to the discharge is on the bottom rear of the tank so the typical bow high attitude of blocking the boat allows everything in the tank to be evacuated. I then take the couple of gallons that are in the bucket and dump it in the men’s room at the yard.

Great point. I think mine was removed but I'll certainly double check. Thank you.

The only thing I do differently is save the fuel filter and impeller changes for the spring. The oil change is the important item before winter layup.

Jeremy didn’t say replace the impeller, I think it said remove the impeller. Cummins recommends removing the impeller for long layups and reinstalling in the spring. Store them in a bowl of pink. They will last longer because they don’t take a set and removing them gets eyes on them so if they are damaged, they can get replaced in the spring. I personally don’t do that, I just replace them every two to three years and yes, always in the spring.

To be honest when I made the list my intention was to remove the impellers each year but didn’t last year because of time. My port motor requires me to remove the alternator to change out the impeller so it makes the job that much harder.

I would like to try blowing out the fresh water lines this fall instead of adding pink to the water tank. It takes too long in the spring to get all the pink out and I assume its just more wear and tear on the pump. Curious how i should proceed. I know i will need a pressure regulator to reduce the pressure going into the lines but i'm not clear as to where i should introduce the air. Would this be after the pump. If so do i need to worry about any bit of water remaining in the tank or line from the tank to the pump?

I blew out my lines last year. Drain all the water from the system, then hook up the compressor to the city water connection. Regulate the pressure going in, then open up the faucets etc and let the water spray out.

What PSI do you keep it at?

30 or 35 PSI. I think the city water connector is regulated at 45.

I store indoors heated so I'm not worried about it being perfect, but I still blow it out just in case.

You can get a fitting at West Marine or amazon that will fit those hose on your air compressor that goes into the city water fill.

Keep in mind this doesn't do anything for the engines, HVAC, etc, just the fresh water system.

There have been other threads on this from people who know more than I do, but I tried it last year and it was easy.

Thanks. Yessir. This is just the freshwater system. Going to leave HVAC and the engines to the boatyard this year
