I’m and old fart, kind of along the lines of Mike Ditka, who recently shared his feelings about people who participate in professional sports and kneel during the National Anthem. Unlike Mike Ditka, it also offends me that they have taken to playing some other “anthem” before some games.

Ditka and I may be part of a dying breed of patriots who believe if you live here you should show respect for our flag, our National Anthem and our country. If you can’t do that then maybe this is not the right place for you to call home. If a person feels strongly that this country is so bad that they cannot stand for the 1:40 that it takes to play the National Anthem I’m sure they wouldn’t want to live here and could pick somewhere else.

I’ll be the first to say that our country is not perfect. But show me another country where people enjoy the freedoms we enjoy and the standard of living that is available if one is willing to work for it.

So with Sunday not being consumed by baseball (which I never watch anyway, it’s about as exciting as watching grass grow) or soccer or football that leaves me lots of time for new activities. I’ll think of something to do. Maybe watching the grass grow or paint dry.

What say you?

my spousal unit is already amassing a list of off the wall projects to fill my time

I'm done with pro sports. The last 4 months have proven I don't miss them like I thought I would. Cancelling DirectTV except our internet service is too poor to use HULU or similar.

I cancelled my NFL Sunday Package. I'll only suffer through watching my Dolphins. Other than that I'll focus on doing all the things I've neglected over the years. Ideally and weather permitting now that I am moving to Florida I'll be on the boat more.

Screw the NFL

The Bears suck anyway, so I have been done with the NFL for a while. I'll catch a game here and there, but it's no longer must see TV. I watch sports to watch the game. I don't need any politics or social justice crap thrown at me. It's the old Mike Jordan line -- Republicans buy sneakers too. There is a time and place for "protests." Pro sports is not it.

any one have a line on a synchronized swimming sport channel?

Did you see this the other day... women walk off the court during national anthem

I didn't see it but did read about it. They could walk their big butts right off the map and I wouldn't have missed a thing.

Saddens and sickens me what is happening in our country right now.

Agree 100%. Remember all the celebrities saying they would move to Canada if Trump won in 2016? Well didn't hear of any of them moving. As far as the NFL, I had been watching even last year but only my Steelers. Well a couple of weeks ago Mike Tomlin stated he would support any player kneeling for the anthem. Well that does it for me. Not saying I won't put it on if there is nothing else on but I certainly won't go out of my way to watch it. Step-son just met Big Ben the other day too. Said he chatted with him for awhile and he was real cool. I quit watching baseball back in the 1994 strike. If they want to be that greedy then they can have it but they aren't getting my money. Besides that, that's about the same time the Pirates started sucking so no loss there...lol. I do still watch NASCAR but that is starting to wear on me too.

I have said it many time, you don't like or respect our flag then get out! I was never in the military but have many uncles, grandfather, cousins, etc that have served and they all deserve respect. My great uncle was at Pearl Harbor when it was attacked. He is still alive and is 103. He was blown over a hillside and full of shrapnel but still put a tourniquet on his buddy and drug him back up the hill. He also gave up his hospital bed for others that he said 'needed it more'. He continued on in the Army for a few more years. Those are the true heroes!

Agreed I’m done with baseball football etc. I still watch soccer( La Liga, British premier league). But on Sundays I watch fishing shows before I head on down to the boat

You can put me in the stick a fork in it, I'm done category. Listening to these leagues bend over and taking it up the wazoo.....which essentially supports the crap going on in Portland and elsewhere? No freaking thank you. I'm out...

I have never been one to live vicariously thru pro-sports heroes so I could give a damn about any of it. I don't play golf but I for some reason will watch the major tournaments on TV but that's it. They should just take all those magnificent coliseums and turn them into social justice centers and Homeless camps if the league is so damn concerned about the disenfranchised. It really will be too bad to see what was such a huge part of Americana dye. It really was a huge part of the foundation of leadership development that drove the 20th century. So many of our great leaders and military commanders were initially steeled on the Highschool football fields under the Friday night lights and all inspired by the legendary men of the grid iron. Once pro football fades, College ball and Highschool foot ball will soon follow. What a shame America has become such a country of lambs that will ultimately be lead to slaughter.
Carpe Diem

What blows is most cities/states pay for the mega stadiums. I know here in the Peoples Republic of MN we have 3 new pro stadiums (Target Field, US Bank , Allianz) 1, 20 year old hockey arena (Excel Energy), 1 new St.Paul Saints baseball stadium, 1 new MN Gopher football stadium, and a recently updated Target Arena for the crappy T-Wolves. All mostly paid for by MN's......and now we have to listen to this garbage? I'm out.

Also, you'd think with all of these teams and stadiums paid for by the taxpayers in MN, we'd be a population of 10 million......

I watch hockey, the players do not kneel and they do a lot for the communities they play for. They play the sport because they love it not for the money. Lets GO Pens!!!

Reading this thread gave me a boost, guys. Thanks. 27-year law enforcement officer and 22-year military reservist with three stints on active duty. I thought everyone hated us!
I wore thin on NFL way back when free agency started. It lost the rest of me when Kaperprick started his affluent-life temper tantrums because he sucks and all his peeps supported it.
NBA lost me long ago. Don’t have time for MLB. WNBA - they couldn’t be commercially viable on their own so who cares what they do - dumbasses.

Was done with the NFL three years ago. Down to college football and the NHRA. First time someone takes a knee at a college game done with that.
